A Message from Mr. Whitten, Principal
Good morning, Lancers!

This week we have been hard at work on our virtual graduation ceremony, and we think it is going to turn out pretty great, so Seniors, start planning your COVID-19 compliant graduation celebrations!

This morning, we also set up the jumbotron on Bastanchury to celebrate our seniors. With 540 seniors, it loops back to the beginning every hour and a half. Come check it out - we have it for two days--through Saturday night--then it's off to the next school.

Go Lancers!

FJUHSD Student Board Member 2020-2021
From May 11th through May 22nd, over 1,200 SHHS students will be taking their AP Exams. College Board has released some very important information to help our students be prepared for test day. This information is also posted on our school’s website.

2020 AP Testing Guide The guide, designed for educators to walk their students through test day, provides information about:

  • The AP Exam e-ticket
  • Five steps to take before test day
  • Understanding the test-day experience
  • Exam scores, credit, and placement

2020 AP Exam Day Checklist   Students should have this checklist for each exam they take and keep it next to them while testing.

Explainer Videos:   New videos are available to give students quick, easily accessible information about their test day experience, what they need to do to prepare, exam security, and more. Explore the playlist.

AP Exam Demos : AP students should use the clickable exam demo to practice the different ways to submit their exam responses. The demo will help students confirm that their testing device will be able to access and run the online exam. If they cannot access the demo, the final slide of the Testing Guide can help them troubleshoot. The sample content in the demo will be the same for all users and is not a practice exam. Please encourage your students to take this important preparation step.

Information for AP Chinese, German, and Spanish Language, and Spanish Culture Exams:

The above exams will be administered using a new dedicated app, the AP World Languages Exam App. Students taking these exams must use this app on smartphones or tablets. This free app will be available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store the week of May 11. College Board will email students and their teachers to let them know when the app is available to download . Click here for more information.

A video walk-through of the test-taking experience will be available the week of May 4.

If your students are unsure about accessing the app, or if they do not have a device, please have your child contact their AP teacher immediately.
Attendance

  • Attendance is still being taken by our teachers through the Aeries portal.

  • During this unique time period, Aeries attendance is being used as a tool to help trigger a notice to parents that their student might not have accessed the distance learning curriculum for a particular class that school day. The notification of an absence is sent out at approximately 6pm every school day.

  • This creates documentation for the school, teacher, and parents to show who is attending/participating and able to access the curriculum. You may continue to monitor your student's Aeries account for attendance and grades.

  • If your student feels they have been marked absent by mistake, please have them communicate this with their teacher. If your student is unable to complete the work that day because of an excusable absence, please complete the Remote Learning Absence Form or call 714 626-4211. The Remote Learning Absence Form is preferred at this time and can also be found on the homepage of the SHHS Website. School work missed because of excused absence should be made up within a period of time equal to that of the time lost.
