Village Attorney John Dellagloria Explains
Council Action on Shannon Melendi Act
June 8, 2021
Village of Palmetto Bay
An item on last evening’s agenda was an amendment to the Ordinance commonly referred to as the “Shannon Melendi Act”. There are several types of events that are exempt from the requirements of the law, including “carnivals”, “festivals” and “fairs”. The amendment passed at the meeting now provides definitions and clarifies what types of events are meant by these exemptions. Though no definition existed at the time, the prior Farmer’s Market was considered a fair; the definition of “fairs” now specifically includes Farmer’s Markets. It is also very important to reiterate what was stated at the meeting, that the amendment did not change in any way the requirements a Vendor must comply with.
