Mentalization focuses on understanding interpersonal relationships, a two person process. DBT focuses on one person's ability to regulate his/her own emotions. Sometimes DBT may not be available in your community. Your loved one may refuses to participate. Cancer patients are treated with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immune therapy. One size doesn't fit all for BPD treatment . DBT isn't the only BPD treatment. Mentalization, a 2 person method, can be implemented by families to improve relationships.
