A Word from the Women's Bible Study

By Dar Stucke

I am confident of this very thing, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

“Value” is defined as “the desirability or worth of a thing, attributed or assumed valuation.” Several factors go into determining value, such as the cost and effort required to obtain something; the purpose for which it is used; or the associations connected with it.

My grandmother had a beautiful Dresden plate that she had received as a wedding gift. As a child, I remember it being prominently displayed in her china cupboard which was a no-no to my brother and me. Today it is mine and priceless to me, not only because of its beauty, but also because it was hers. I also have an inexpensive mixing bowl that is valuable to me because it belonged to my mom. Not only is it valuable for this reason; it is also very useful in my kitchen.

What value has God placed on life? In James 4:14 we read, “Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” Jesus said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the knowledge of your Father in heaven. And even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:28-31) God has placed an infinitely great value on us. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Our Heavenly Father wants to increase the value of our lives. He who has begun a good work wants to perfect it. The Greek word translated “will perform it” means “will evermore put His finishing touches to it.” How important are the finishing touches on a college student’s senior project, a designed and sewn prom dress, the artist’s final touches of color on a painting, the last artistic touches of decoration on a wedding cake. These finishing touches transform a commonplace object into a work of art. Little touches, yes, but of the greatest importance! So God continues to put His finishing touches on our lives, to increase His investment in them and to make us more valuable to Him.

Dear God, I know I am of great value to You because You suffered and died for me. I also know I am still very much a work in progress. I ask You to please continue to put Your finishing touches on my life that will bring it to perfection according to Your standards. You are the potter and I am the clay. Make me willing to be melted and molded according to Your way and brought to completion by You. In Jesus name, Amen 🙏

New Member Class
June 3rd  - 6:30pm

There are many of you that are expressing an interest in becoming a part of our church community through membership. We are excited about you continuing your faith life with us here at the Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church.
I would like to invite everyone to our next New Member Course occurring on JUNE 3, 2021 at 6:30pm. This orientation meeting will take place in the church sanctuary and will last about two hours.

We will be social distancing. Please wear a mask when you arrive. This will be a chance to get to know others that will be joining along with you!  Later in June during a worship service we will be acknowledging those of you that have made the decision to become a part of our church family! If you are already a member and want to know more about your church please come!
If you have any questions concerning your new membership, please call me anytime!

Again, welcome!

The NEW monthly small group in my home . . . . where we gather to share a beer or a beverage and discuss theology. Any type of theology. We can try to solve the world’s problems too! Let’s begin this conversation on the THIRD TUESDAY of every month at 6:30pm. Next gathering is May 18th. Feel free to bring your own beverage!

People have been gathering in pubs and public spaces for ages, talking about life, philosophy, faith, and deep questions of meaning. Increasingly, people all over are rediscovering space where they can explore and express their own doubts and questions, learn from others, and engage people of varying religious traditions. In our increasingly fractured society, these spaces are not only welcome, but needed.
Come bring your questions, your curiosity, and pull up a chair.
Our Home Address is :  Carol and Pastor Tony Scheer -
11133 E. Segura Ave - Mesa, AZ 85212
(cross roads are Signal Butte and Warner)

HOLY LAND TRIP
January 2022

We have been able to confirm at least 8 of us who are able to make the trip to the Holy Land this January! If you too, are interested please contact me and we’ll get you set up. We will be having a website page to go to for registration soon! The trip will include most biblical excursions in and around Jerusalem including Bethlehem and Nazareth.

As your Pastor I will make the connections in Bethlehem to meet with the Bishop of the Lutheran church in Jordan and the Holy Land.

At this time prayerfully consider this opportunity. The more people that will be participating, the cheaper the trip will be for everyone. Right now we guestimate the trip to be around $4,000 or less. Please contact the church office or Pastor Tony if you are interested. (909-435-5200)

Instruction
For anyone ready to receive the Lord’s Supper

On Sunday, June 6th at 10:30 a.m., we have scheduled a summer session of our First Communion Instruction class. This course is for our young people who are asking deeper questions regarding receiving the Lord’s Supper and are entering the milestone ministry of First Communion. This course is open all children of all ages. Parents and youth can attend this special class that teaches youth the meaning of communion.

The Lord’s Supper is provided to anyone who is baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. There are no prerequisites! It is a free gift as baptism itself. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America invites first communion to take place as early as the same day of infant baptism.

Please contact the church office if you are interested in having your child participate in this event.  Phone - 480-396-8300
