"With Nothing to Hold on To"
What happens to compassion during a pandemic? On this, as with many other big questions, our assumptions about "the way life is" get thrown into uncertainty. How can we take care of each other when we're wondering how to care for ourselves?

Meet the Budget
Christina Fulton, Director of Operations & Finance

Our annual Meet the Budget Meeting will be happening on Thursday, May 21, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Our Board President, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, and Director of Operations & Finance will be on hand to share the vision for the 2020/2021 fiscal year budget, and to answer your questions. Copies of the summary budget can be found on our website:

Meet the Budget will be held via Zoom; please use this link to attend:  us02web.zoom.us/j/87958656065If you do not have an internet connection, you may attend by calling in from your landline: 1-646-558-8656 using meeting id# 879 5865 6065. We hope to see you there!

Online Joys & Sorrows Submission Form
purple-water-flowers.jpg
While in-person services in the Meeting House are suspended due to the pandemic, we want to provide an alternative way for members and friends to share their Joys & Sorrows with the congregation.

An online Joys & Sorrows submission form is now available at this link:  forms.gle/zmw4z4mzjrPttrX37 . The link will also be in each week's eNews in the lefthand margin.

T o share your joy or sorrow online, please use this form  to tell us in a sentence or two what is making you sad or happy or hopeful or...whatever. Joys & Sorrows will be read and collated weekly and shared in the service as much as possible. Since online services are available publicly on the First UU Society YouTube channel, we will not read full names or personal details during the service.

Thank you for your help as we experiment with this new online tool.

Rev. Tricia Hart, with the Membership Team, Care Network, and staff

Audio Meditations Now Available!
In case you missed the announcement in last week's eNews, we hope you'll check out our newest program at the Society: weekly audio meditations that are just a click away, from a link on the opening page of the First UU website or at uusociety.org/belonging/pastoral-care-associates/.

There will be a new meditation each Tuesday at 10 a.m. All recordings will be archived so you can listen to them as many times as you wish. Each meditation will be approximately 10-15 minutes long. Find a comfortable place to sit, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and begin. We hope you will enjoy these offerings of love and peace from fellow congregants. Feedback welcome.

Angel Fund
Christina Fulton, Director of Operations & Finance

You Can Help Members During These Uncertain Times:
Many members of our Society are unable to make a pledge for the 2020/2021 fiscal year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some have lost their jobs and some are just too unsure of their financial situation to make that type of commitment. These are members who are active in our community, have supported FUUSB financially in the past, and fully intend to support the Society in the future. They just don't feel that they can make a pledge for this coming fiscal year at this time.

We also know that there are other members of our Society that are more financially secure right now and might be able to make a gift in addition to their pledge. A gift that might help cover the loss of pledge income we're seeing in these uncertain times. So with a starter gift from a very generous member, we have created the Angel Fund. The Angel Fund is designed to accept one-time gifts (separate from your pledge) that will help replace lost pledge income due to the pandemic. Our hope is that members who are unable to pledge for the next fiscal year will feel some sense of relief knowing that the Society will not be negatively affected by their inability to pledge at this particular time.

We hope you will consider making a gift to the Angel Fund. Gifts can be made by sending a check to the Society with "Angel" in the memo line or by giving online from our website: uusociety.org/donate. Make sure to mark your gift as going to the Angel Fund. Please contact Christina at [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Continuing Drop-In Chalice Circle
Hope Baker-Carr

New "Drop-In" Chalice Circle continues every Thursday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. The meeting is open to anyone who wishes to make connections during this time of uncertainty, is curious about Chalice Circles, or would like to try out an online experience. Our time together begins with a reading and then participants take turns sharing their thoughts about the reading, or more generally how they are doing, while others listen.

Contact Hope Baker-Carr, [email protected], with any questions you may have. The Zoom link for the meeting is:  zoom.us/j/882782496  or if you do not have internet access, you can join by phone at 1-646-558-8656 (meeting ID: 882 782 496).
