Exodus 3: 1 - 2; 4, 7 - 8, 10

Moses at the Burning Bush
3 Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed.

4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

7 Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, 8 and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

10 So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”
Children's Moment
Parents, read over the lesson below and use it to stir conversation as a family!
Moses and the Burning Bush
In today's scripture lesson Moses is out caring for a flock of sheep when he stumbles upon a burning bush. When Moses approached the bush, God spoke to him and told him all about His people suffering in Egypt.

Gods Plan For Moses!
God does not like to see His children suffering and had big plans to save them! God told Moses that He would send him to rescue the people from Egypt!

God has asked Moses to do something really hard in order to save His people. Moses is scared but God has promised Moses that he can do it and that He will be with him along the way!

In what ways can you help someone who is sad or hurting?

Prayer
Dear God, Please be with me and give me the courage and strength to help those that are hurting and sad. Amen.

Avondale Pounding for
Katy LeGrand and Stephen Hill

Member Care is organizing a baking pantry "pounding" for Katy LeGrand and Stephen Hill. Katy and Stephen plan to take the Next Steps Class to join our church the next time it is offered. Although they are quite new to Avondale, the idea is for our church family to show our love and support with a pounding surprise to celebrate their engagement and upcoming wedding on November 12. Reverend Jim Ewing will officiate their wedding!
Help us fill a baking pantry for Katy and Stephen. Items to be dropped off in the bin at the FLC breezeway on or before Wednesday, November 4! See the link below for a list of pounding items!
If you know of any member concerns or needs, please email Jim.

Gleaning with Avondale
You've heard of pumpkin patches--but what about watermelons, sweet potatoes, or turnips? Avondale periodically has the opportunity to do gleaning--where farmers make the leftovers in their fields available for the poor and hungry. This is a practice that has existed since Biblical times (see, for example, the book of Ruth). And it's a great way to get the whole family out of the house to see some of our North Carolina farms in a safe, socially distanced way. Opportunities arise somewhat randomly, but if you'd like to participate when they do, drop a line to Rich Worf and Harry Greyard and we'll put you on the list!
