A Message from Mr. Bugnacki
|
|
It’s May and this is the time of year when our schools are buzzing with energy, excitement, and anticipation as students think about closing out the year; looking forward to summer. This new environment is challenging us all to capture the usual spirit of the last full month of school. Our teachers and principals are thinking creatively to make the next four weeks of school as meaningful, memorable, and spirited as possible. We know it’s not the same as being together, but we will make the most of it.

Parents, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to maintain our achievement expectations while keeping a sense of belonging and culture; not an easy task in a remote environment. We are all looking forward to a return to normal, but we know that normal may look a bit different in the future. To that point, Summer Academy has the potential to be a little unconventional this year. Our traditional summer school program may require a different approach and this week we asked for your interest in summer learning opportunities for your child. Thank you to all who have completed the summer school survey thus far, we value your feedback. If you haven't had a chance to complete the short survey, please find the link below.
As we near the end of the school year, we are beginning to turn our attention to 2020-21. We are on schedule to start on September 8, 2020. Until we hear differently from the health officials, we are planning for a normal start to the school year. However, we do know that we will most likely need to take extra precautions when school resumes. With this in mind, we are acquiring the necessary PPEs to protect students and staff with plans underway to secure sanitation supplies and equipment to keep our spaces cleaned and sanitized. We are assessing staffing needs in anticipation that we will need to increase the frequency of disinfecting, sanitizing, and cleaning. Our goal is to create the safest environment for our students and staff so we can concentrate on teaching and learning when school resumes in the fall. Let’s all continue to do what’s necessary so we can look forward to a traditional start to the school year.

Summer Academy Survey
The Cedarburg School District Summer Academy has long been a popular component of our instructional program. While the intent is to offer summer learning opportunities this year, the current COVID-19 circumstances require a different approach and numerous factors need to be explored. One of those factors is parent interest in a remote summer school experience. If offered, remote summer learning would likely consist of opportunities similar to those provided during the school closure, but it is possible an on-line platform of “lessons” could be used. If there is sufficient interest, and summer programming proves feasible, details on specific offerings will be forthcoming. Please indicate your level of interest in signing your child(ren) up for summer learning experiences by completing a very short

As we begin to think about wrapping up the 2020-21 school year, (it’s so hard to believe that there are only 16 days of school remaining), we are simultaneously planning ways to support your children's continued growth over the summer in preparations for a strong start to a new school year. Drawing upon a variety of student learning data sources, including Quarter 4 student engagement and participation in the virtual learning platform, the district is considering ways to ensure a supportive, yet agile start to a wonderful, new school year!
