Special HCC Meeting Thursday
Please be advised that the Derry Township Board of Supervisors shall meet on Thursday, March 05, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room of the Derry Township Municipal Building located at 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey, PA 17033 for the purpose of discussing the Derry Township Community Center Project.

Support the HVFD with an Ember Ale
The Hershey Volunteer Fire Company in partnership with Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant in Hershey will be releasing “Ember Ale” on Tuesday, March 10th 2020. 
 
Iron Hill, located at 101 W. Chocolate Ave in Hershey will hold a ceremonial First Pour at 5pm on Tuesday, March 10th. The Hershey FIre Department will be selling Limited Edition T-shirts and Pint Glasses in conjunction with the release of Ember Ale. All proceeds from Beer Sales and 20% of food sales that evening will directly benefit the Hershey Volunteer Fire Compan y. 
 
All patrons that evening will need a Give 20 coupon in order for the Fire Department to receive the 20% donation. Coupons are available by following this ticket link , stopping by the station, from any of our members, or by emailing the below.

Creating an LGBTQ-Inclusive Community Featured at Next Diversity Event
The next Hershey Area All Things Diversity event will feature Todd Snovel, who will be presenting "Creating an LGBTQ-Inclusive Community in Hershey and Beyond." The free event will be held on March 11, 2020 at the Hershey Middle School, beginning with a light supper at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m. Registration is required to attend.

This session will provide information on LGBTQ individuals and some of the unique challenges they may face in their workplaces and community settings. Participants will identify strategies to foster an environment where all LGBTQ communities can feel supported and safe. In an age of ever-evolving understanding and recognition of the rich diversities of genders and sexualities, this session will help people take steps to ensure that businesses, organizations, and community activities deliver warm and welcoming experiences to everyone.

Todd Snovel was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf as the inaugural Executive Director for the Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs. In this role, he advised the Governor on policies, practices, legislation, and systems that impacted LGBTQ individuals and communities.

The Art of Racing in the Rain
Presented by Garth Stein

We welcome Garth Stein, bestselling author of The Art of Racing in the Rain , the story of a beloved philosopher dog named Enzo who teaches us everything we need to know about being human. Teen Reader's Cafe
Tuesday, March 3 at 3:00 p.m.

Drop-in to Teen Reader's Cafe to chat about novels, comics, audio books, blog posts, graphic novels, and more. Open to tweens and teens age 12 and older. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Teen Reader's Cafe is presented by Kendra Mase. Registration is not required.
LEGO Club
Wednesday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m.

Do you have children who love playing with LEGO? Budding architects and LEGO fanatics ages 6+ are welcome to join LEGO Club where building encourages imagination and creativity, and where children bring construction to life. Rita Smith, the Children’s Librarian, begins the club meeting with a story and then describes the LEGO building challenge for that week. Play Day for Families
Friday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m.

Families with children ages 2-5 are welcome to register for an hour of center-based free play that encourages children and their adults to engage in the five practice of Early Literacy: talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. This program is presented by Barb Clay. Please register online or call the library at 717-533-6555.
Services
Derry Township Community Cats to Hold Spay/Neuter Clinics
Derry Township residents can sign up to get help with trapping outdoor free-roaming cats and having them spayed/neutered and vaccinated for free through Derry Township Community Cats. The next two clinics are on March 10 and April 14. Reservations can be made by calling 717-592-8087. 

Residents can also schedule a low-cost spay or neuter and vaccinations for owned cats by calling the same number. Visit  www.derrytownshipcats.org  for more information about this program and ways you can support it.
Sports Sampling Camp
From June 15th to June 18th, Rising 4th - 8th grade Hershey students (boys and girls) can experience various sports over a four-day period.

The sports will be soccer, basketball, flag football, touch rugby, field hockey, volleyball, kickball, lacrosse, baseball/softball, tennis, ultimate frisbee, track & field.

This is an AWESOME way for kids to try new sports and enjoy familiar ones without a large commitment. A bonus is that they can do this with their friends right here in Hershey this summer!!

Community News and Events
Climate Change and Health in Vulnerable Communities
On Wednesday, March 11th, the Hershey Indivisible Team will host guest speaker, Natasha Sood, from Penn State Hershey College of Medicine. Ms. Sood will address the health impacts of climate change, especially in vulnerable communities. She will also discuss the history of the environmental justice movement and how it impacts us from a global and regional standpoint. Best of all, she will provide tips on how we can all be agents of change in our own communities.

Natasha Sood is a third-year medical student at Penn State College of Medicine. Prior to attending medical school, she received a Master’s Degree from Columbia University in Environmental Health Science with a specialization in Climate Change and Health. Her efforts in research and advocacy are based on the impact of climate change on patients’ health, the ability of health care professionals to provide care, and the overall sustainability of healthcare systems.

This event will be held at the Hershey Public Library at 6:30 p.m.

Women's Civic Club of Hershey Meeting
The Women's Civic Club of Hershey will meet on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at The Traditions of Hershey located at 100 North Larkspur Dr., Palmyra. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM. Christine Drexler, founder of Cocoa Packs will speak on the supplemental food program that assists Derry Township School District students who are food insecure. This meeting is open to all women 18 years and older.
Tröegs Hosts Fundraiser for Hope Springs Farm!
On Wednesday, March 4, 2020 Tröegs Brewery in Hershey is hosting a fundraiser for Hope Springs Farm. Stop in anytime between 11:00AM and 9:00PM for a delicious meal and quality time with friends or family. Tröegs will be giving back 20% of your food purchase to support the programs at Hope Springs Farm. These fundraisers are an important part of the continuing success of the programs at Hope Springs Farm. The Farm now offers the Growers Horticulture Therapy on Mondays, a Yoga Class on Tuesdays, and Music Therapy on Wednesdays. Some patients begin their journeys with a trip on the Life Lion pediatric ambulance or in an isolette that’s racing to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Some kids travel weekly to one of our many outpatient clinics for rehabilitation or continued care.

Help us pave an easier road for these Miracle Children and their families by supporting A Miracle Journey gala.

Hershey Symphony Orchestra Schedules Derby-Themed Musical Gala at the new Englewood Venue
The Hershey Symphony Orchestra announces its new fundraising event, “A Night at the Derby,” Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the new Englewood venue in Hershey.
The evening will feature music from orchestral groups and the Hershey Symphony Dance Band. Guests will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and Kentucky Derby fun.
Tickets are $75 per person and a cash bar will be available. A portion of the ticket price is tax-deductible. Reservations are limited and may be made at www.HersheySymphony.org . All proceeds benefit The Hershey Symphony Orchestra.

The Englewood is Hershey’s newest music entertainment and dining destination and will open to the public in April 2020. Originally built in 1861, Englewood will feature a 130-seat restaurant, 200-seat patio, live music venue and brewery.
