So Many Thank Yous to Go Around!
It has been a tremendously busy summer for events downtown, made possible by generous sponsors and an army of selfless volunteers. Together, they all strive to present the best of our community. So, a big round of thanks to everyone who worked on A Very Vintage Market, the 5 & V Outdoor Movies, RAGBRAI, and the Gus Macker tournaments! Their commitment has been exemplary.
Main Street Challenge Grant
Downtown Partners is seeking project proposals for the state funded Main Street Challenge Grant. The maximum grant award is $75,000 with a minimum 1:1 cash match required. The project must be downtown; work already begun is not eligible for funding. For application information, click here. The project summary deadline is August 16.
Farmers Market News
The Jefferson St. Farmers Market is at the height of the season, and we are glad to welcome so many visitors and new vendors! On August 8, join us for the eighth annual jalapeƱo eating contest. On August 15, bring the kids down for free horse drawn trolley rides. A special thanks to Two Rivers Bank & Trust for their support of the market.
The Latest News...
  • We're eagerly anticipating the opening of two unique food-related businesses this month. The Collective, the region's first shared-use commercial kitchen, will be opening at 805 Jefferson and will have a retail section as well. And Good, in the historic stone house at 423 N. Third, will present a spectacular new dining experience. Be watching for updates!
  • You might have noticed the outside brick failure at 300 Washington, which is owned by DPI. We have done considerable work in cleaning out the building and putting a new roof on it, but longtime structural issues still need to be addressed. The corner will be braced shortly, and we will continue to seek funding and opportunities for more improvements to this historic building.
  • If you have a downtown property for sale or lease and are interested in having it included in the Commercial Space open House on September 22, contact Steve Frevert. It's a great chance to attract a buyer or tenant.
  • Thanks to talented local artists, we have new painted benches, crosswalks, and pianos - so awesome!
