Dear St. Louis Families,
Happy Friday! Today, we recognize Venerable Pierre Toussaint, patron saint of hairdressers and barbers. He was born a slave in the world’s eyes, but through the virtue of charity that he shared with all he met, he brought the warmth of God’s love into countless lives. He often preached about the beauty of our Catholic faith to his customers, many of whom were not Catholic. His life is a reminder that no matter who we are or where we are, no matter how small the world tries to make us feel, we can always and everywhere practice the virtue of charity and share God’s love with everyone in our life.
Our students did an amazing job this week sharing their talents and their energy with our Fun Run. It was so nice to see the smiles and the joy on faces as they pushed through their laps and just had some fun outdoors. Truly, there was a lot of love being spread through the kindness and the care students demonstrated. Your generosity is greatly appreciated as you supported your children in this event but also the school’s efforts to support instructional needs.
This coming week will continue the fun with field days for everyone Thursday and Friday. I am so grateful to all the volunteers who will be giving their time to our students and to Mrs. Blaha! This coming week is also the last one for our preschoolers. It is amazing the growth we see in our youngest ones over the course of a school year - - and we look forward to seeing them in the Fall. Please know that all devices (Chromebooks and iPads) will need to be returned no later than June 4th to homeroom teachers for inventory. I ask that you make every effort to remove stickers and wipe down protective cases for the iPads. As a reminder, families were borrowing these devices, and we ask that they be returned in as close to the condition with which they were assigned at the beginning of the school year. Families are responsible for any damage.
Today also brings changes to the executive orders issued by the state of Virginia regarding public health guidance. Schools are still an exception to these changes. Current verbiage from the update announces that schools will continue with the mitigations in place from the current school year for the duration of this 2020-2021 school year. On campus, students will still wear masks and practice appropriate spacing.
We pray for all those in our families and in our country who died while serving our country. I wish you all a wonderful long weekend.
Peace,
Anne M. Dyke
Principal

Summer Tutoring
Our Title 1 teacher, Mrs. Kathy Shuey, is offering tutoring for a fee during the summer weeks. She has been STL's Title I Reading and Math teacher for grades K-5 for the past 7 years. Summer is the time for all students to keep progressing & get extra support, so that they will be ready to go in the fall. Mrs. Shuey will offer sessions that include hands-on activities, games, and computer review for each of the sessions in math, reading, writing, spelling, comprehension, and letter formation for the youngest. She is available to come to your home or go to a central meeting point (library). Sessions are currently available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays for 45 minutes to an hour (depending on the age of the child). Call for more information at 703-581-5551 or email [email protected]

Can I come to school?
COVID case counts in our area are very low, but the health screening has not changed. If your child has any of the symptoms listed on the health checklist, he/she cannot come to school until you have consulted with the nurse. The nurse may not be available until after carline. The school may not require a doctor’s note, and your doctor may not require a COVID test, but your child cannot come back to in-person until he/she has been symptom free for a full 24 hrs without fever-reducing medicine. If you would like your child to return before symptoms have resolved, you still must provide a doctor’s note stating that your child is clear to return to school and date of return.
