NDEO's 2020 "Virtual" National Conference

DANCE and SOCIETY: Developing Community, Empathy, and Understanding through Dance

Tips for a Successful Experience
It all starts this week!

Pre-Conference Intensives - Oct. 19 - 22 (Mon-Thurs)
Full Conference - Oct. 23 - 25 (Fri - Sunday)
Dear Conference Registrant ,

Thank you for registering for NDEO’s 2020 National Conference. We are excited to welcome almost 1,000 attendees to our first ever virtual conference event featuring over 100 movement workshops, panel discussions, and paper presentations. We welcome you to join us on this journey as we discover the many facets of Dance and Society.

The conference begins this week and this email provides a few tips to help you get oriented to ensure that you get the most out of your virtual experience.

You should have received an email on Friday evening 10/16/20 from support@crowdcompassmail.com that provides access to our conference Online Portal.

Read on for more information......
Access to the Conference Sessions
NDEO will have its own special conference Online Portal (hosted by CrowdCompass by CVent) where you will access all the Zoom links to the sessions. An email invitation from support@crowdcompassmail.com with a link to this special conference Online Portal was sent on Friday 10/16/20 around 6:20pm EDT.

If you are a Presenter, you will receive two of emails - one specifically to set up your Presenter profile and one as an attendee - from support@crowdcompassmail.com.

Check your spam/junk folder of the email address that you used to register if you cannot locate this email. You used this email address to register:

NOTE: This special conference Online Portal is not the same as the NDEO website. In addition, should you choose to attend the conference on your cell phone instead of a computer, you will need to download their phone app called CrowdCompass AttendeeHub. All of this information will be in the email you receive from support@crowdcompassmail.com.
Session Descriptions - Presenter Bios
The most up-to-date times, session titles, descriptions, and presenter bios will be available on the special conference Online Portal.

Zoom, Zoom
Each registrant will need to have their own Zoom account. If you don’t have one, you can set it up for free. Caution: Do not use a friend or family’s Zoom account. Zoom does not like it if more than one person tries to use one Zoom account at the same time. Our special conference website is where you will go to access the Zoom link for each session.

Go to https://zoom.us/ and click on the orange “Sign Up, It’s Free” button in the top right hand corner to set up your free account if you don't have one.

We have almost 1,000 registrants! Yay! But each virtual session can only hold 300 people. So if there is a must-attend session for you, don't be late.
Need a Little Help - Office Hours
NDEO will be hosting two special "Office Hours" sessions before the conference starts to help anyone who may need assistance in accessing the event platform (conference Online Portal) or who may have general questions about the conference in general.

Join us at one of our open Office Hours next week to troubleshoot any portal access or navigation issues with an NDEO staff member over Zoom:

  • Wednesday 10/21 from 10 am - 12 pm EDT - Office Hours
  • Thursday 10/22 from 3 pm - 5 pm EDT - Office Hours

Email conference@ndeo.org for the zoom link for the Office Hours.
Live vs Recorded
The majority of the sessions are being presented LIVE and are being recorded. What does this mean for you?

  1. NDEO will be recording conference sessions for the purposes of sharing with attendees asynchronously for a limited time after the conference. Because of this it is possible that your likeness may be captured during the recording. Only a few are not being recorded at the request of the presenter.
  2. You always retain the option to turn off your camera and audio if you do not want to be recorded for privacy reasons.
  3. We hope to have the recordings available several weeks after the conference.
Know your Time Zones
All session times listed in the schedule are in EDT which stands for Eastern Daylight Time. This follows the time zone of the NDEO home office which is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Eastern Standard Time (EST) does not start until November 1, 2020. When in doubt about how your particular time zone matches EDT, please google it!
