How will you communicate?
One of the keys to having a great sale is effective Communication! The most successful units are great communicators! There is no one best way to communicate. Your unit should adopt a plan that works best for you, your unit leaders, and your Scouts and their families.

So where do you start with putting a communication plan together?  Make sure you have your sale plan together. Review the Council Calendar dates. Set your unit dates. Review the sale calendar from the Council website and in your Unit guidebook.

Second, you need to determine how you are going to communicate . Use a mix of communication styles; Unit announcements, Email, Text messages, Newsletter, Social media, Use your kickoff! Use
familiar communication methods. How do you communicate other information through you unit? You know your unit best and what people look for.

Third, determine who to communicate with. Communicate your deadlines and key information with Unit Committee Members and Leaders so they can help you stick to the plan. Communicate the plan to the parents (check out this tool for the kickoff). Let them know the benefits of the popcorn and nut sale. Remember the “Ws”.
Who, can help Communicate the plan to the Scouts?
What, are the key dates? What, are the prizes and incentives that your Scouts can earn? What, we are selling? (Remember it’s Scouting)
Where, are you doing Show and Sells, Neighborhood sales, Wagon Dragin’? Where do the orders get turned in? Where do families pick up product?
When, what times are you doing sales? When do orders need to be turned in to you?
Why, do we sell? What are you trying to accomplish?

Using regular communication and reminders will help make your sale more effective and in the long run, your job easier. Have a GREAT sale!

Reminders and Tips - Online Order Tips
A great way to increase your sale is by your youth doing online sales. You still receive the same commission with online sales as you do with your Show and Sell and Take Order. Online sales count towards your prizes; both Prizemania, if your unit is using it, and/or Council Bonus Prizes.

To have your Scouts create an online page is easy. Go to the Council Web Page, www.paducthbsa.org and under the Fall Product Sale click on the On-Line Login Information. Select the link for Scouts, and you will be able to open a presentation, either in Power Point or as a PDF that will walk you through the steps for creating you own personal page. You can also find the instructions on the Camp Masters home page, www.campmasters.org .

Once your page is created send it out to friends and family. People can also find your page by going to the Camp Masters page, there they can find your Scout under “ CONSUMERS, support Scouts with your online popcorn purchase .” Camp Masters will ship them their product. Either way it’s a great way to increase your sales and have people around the country support you. What could be easier.
Reminders and Tips - Show and Sell Order
The deadline for your Show and Sell order will soon be here. To help ensure that this process goes smoothly here are a few reminders and tips:

Make sure that your unit has filed a 2019 Unit Commitment Form or committed on-line. Ensure that you have signed onto the Camp Masters Link, if you have committed but have not signed onto the link you will be unable to order your popcorn.

80% rule: Every returning unit’s threshold of 80% of their combined sales was emailed to all committed units. This is the maximum order you can place without filing a Show and Sell Orders and Return Policy Form. There are two exceptions to this. First, if you have had a previous high seller transfer to your unit we will work with you to ensure they have enough corn to cover their needs. Please let us know the amount they sold last year. Second, if your unit conducted an early Take Order you can order the corn that you need to cover those sales. Both will require in writing why you wish to order over your threshold. All other orders over the 80% will not be processed without the accompanying form. Your 80% includes both Popcorn and Nuts.
You can use the Unit Potential Worksheet tool and the Trails End Conversion Tool on the Website to help you assemble your order.

Due date. Orders need to be placed by the due date of August 12 th . If you are having issues, contact your District Kernel or Executive. We strongly suggest that you do not wait till the last minute of the deadline in case you run into issues.

Submit. Be sure to submit your order once you are through with it. While working on your order you may save and go back to it later, but once completed it will not show up in the system until you have clicked on the submit button. Once submitted it will then be checked to make sure it passes the 80% rule.

If you need to place an additional order for the nuts be sure that you are only ordering the additional you want. We will add multiple orders together to get your final order. If you have any specific questions please address them to your District Kernel or Executive.

Past Issues
Missed a “What’s Poppin’” or accidentally deleted it. Don’t worry. There is an archive of past issues on the Council Website. Just go to http://padutchbsa.org/popcorn/whats-poppin/, look at the menu on the left hand side and click on “What’s Poppin’,” and pick the issue you are looking for.
2019 Fall Product Sale Unit Signups
When you signed up for the sale you were sent an email confirmation that took you to the Camp Masters website. At this site your information was gathered that will allow you access into the Camp Master System. So far only about half of our units have responded to this email. Be sure to check you Spam and Junk Mail to insure that you didn’t miss the email and will be able to get entered into the system.

If you hadn’t yet had the opportunity to commit to the sale and be a Team Player for the coming program year, you still have time to do so. Unsure who your Kernel will be for 2019, you can still commit and then later change it to your new kernel. Just go the council website, www.padutchbsa.org and go to the Fall Product Sale page. Click on the big Blue button that says “Commit to the Fall Product Sale,” or the link; https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/bEePd9a3lIZLdjiuaY8qg6W7 and fill out the form. It’s that easy. All correspondence will be conducted with your Kernel of record, so if you do change your Kernel be sure to let us know.
Council Popcorn Machine
The popcorn machine is available for units to borrow for their Kickoff and Show and Sell Events this fall! It’s a great way to help generate excitement for the sale!! You can download the request form and return it to Leisha, leishamarie@scouting.org to schedule the use of it. Machine use is on a first come, first served basis. As long as the machine is being used as part of your sale promotion there is no fee. Use of the machine includes corn and oil packets, the first 8 packets are free. Additional packets are available at $1.00 each. Each packet feeds approximately 10 people. Please be sure to clean the machine before returning. If you would like to use the machine for other events there is a small cost.
