William and Delores Brehm Research Award in Type 1 Diabetes
|
MDiabetes and the Michigan Diabetes Research Center (MDRC) are pleased to announce the 2019-2020 awardees of the William and Delores Brehm Research Award in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (Brehm T1D).

The William and Delores Brehm Research Award in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (Brehm T1D) was established to promote research in type 1 diabetes mellitus by new and established investigators at the University of Michigan. The goal of the program is to accelerate the pace of research and enable awardees to generate sufficient preliminary data for successful applications for major research funding from the NIH or other national granting agency.
Individuals who hold full-time instructional, research or clinical faculty positions at the University of Michigan were eligible to apply, submitting proposals in the areas of basic biomedical, clinical, behavioral, epidemiological, health services, or translational research, addressing key questions regarding the pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and its complications.

Annual Diabetes Symposium 2020
|
All are invited to present a poster of your work in the area of diabetes, its complications, and related endocrine and metabolic disorders.
Eight data blitz participants will be selected from submitted abstracts.
The deadline for abstract submission is Wednesday, February 19, 2020
. During the data blitz you are allowed to present up to two slides and you will be given two minutes for your presentation. You will be notified by Monday, March 2, 2020 if you have been selected to participate in the data blitz. Your two slides must be turned in by Monday, March 9, 2020. Data blitz participants will receive a gift card.
Poster session winners (one graduate student and one fellow) will be awarded a round trip flight to attend the University of California San Francisco's Diabetes & Obesity Retreat in November 2020. Runner-up winners will receive a gift card.
Graduate students and fellows are eligible to participate in the data blitz and receive poster awards.

Apply Now: Clinical Translational Research Scholars Program
|
The MDiabetes Clinical Translational Research Scholars Program seeks to identify and support the most promising early-stage scholars focused on clinical research relevant to diabetes. MDiabetes Clinical Translational Research Scholars Program will provide up to 50% salary support for up to 3 years, protecting this time from clinical care duties to allow successful clinical research scholarly activities. The MDiabetes Clinical Translational Research Scholars Program will also provide strong mentoring regarding research and career advancement.

In December, Bill and Dee Brehm recognized the 70th anniversary of Mrs. Brehm's type 1 diabetes diagnosis. To celebrate this milestone and the extraordinary life Dee has led while managing this difficult disease, a banner was created and signed by many of the people who are inspired and supported by the Brehms and their quest to find a cure.

Seeking Students for the NIDDK Medical Student Research Program in Diabetes and Obesity 2020
The Medical Student Research Program in Diabetes and Obesity was established to encourage medical students to consider a research career focused on diabetes or obesity. Students conduct research with an established scientist in the areas of diabetes, hormone action, physiology, islet cell biology or obesity for 2-3 months in the summer between the first and second year, or between the second and third year, of medical school.
