February 2020
January is finally over! We loved our first month of 2020, but we agree with all those internet memes out there that said January felt like it lasted for-ev-errrr. What did you think? How was your intro to the new year?

We're so happy to enter into a new month as we continue alongside you toward our goals for 2020. We look forward to seeing how you will honor Black History Month as well as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month over these next few weeks. This is a great opportunity to learn as well as to educate. Watch our social media pages for our contributions to these conversations!

Please take some time to check out some news and updates for the month of February below, especially our upcoming trainings.
COORDINATED COMMUNITY RESPONSES
Are there talks of creating a SART in your community? Consider using this SART readiness assessment from the NSVRC to see what kind of a foundation your community has for a project like this. More information and helpful documents can be found on our website under "What We Do".
LEADERSHIP
Here at OAESV, we've been talking a lot about how to manage changes -- from big to small. So, we thought we'd share this article with you in case this is a conversation that's happening at your organization too.
How To Manage Change At Your Nonprofit | CauseVox

Navigating change is difficult whether you're a startup nonprofit or an established organization, but change is also inevitable. With stretched resources and an oftentimes overworked staff, nonprofits tend to bear an extra burden when it comes to ...

PREVENTION
Our prevention team is hard at work!

Caitlin Burke, our Prevention Specialist, will be contacting rape crisis programs and other preventionists throughout Ohio over the next couple of months to see how we can all work together! Please watch for her emails.

Also, we greatly appreciate your continued support of our social change campaign, Be the One Ohio. Have you checked out the social media and website? Let us know if you'd like to contribute!

We also want to send a special thank you to the four programs who participated in the advisory committee for the first phase of our Ohio Bar Project--Women Helping Women, SARNCO, Impact Safety, and Hope and Healing--as well as to all the others who so graciously helped us spread the survey and gain responses.

We had a great number of responses and truly appreciate all the help. We will use the data to develop strategies to create welcoming, harassment-free spaces in alcohol-serving establishments. We look forward to sharing more information about the results and recommendations soon.
RESOURCES & COMMUNICATIONS
We came across this wonderful guide to "media advocacy", which includes, "creative social marketing strategies that help to accomplish the fundamental goals of any organization including branding, fundraising, social media presence, and creating a context for understanding sexual violence in our communities."

Are you using media advocacy at your organization? Check out the guide to think critically about how you're using your outlets and engaging with the media.

And if you're a member, watch out for our upcoming SAAM 2020 content package! We are so excited to offer a set of content, tips, and suggestions specific to Ohio that will help you make the most out of this year's sexual assault awareness month. Not a member? You can still join!
ADVOCACY
We have THREE upcoming opportunities for further advocacy training. These trainings will be offered to OAESV members, and remember that there's still time to sign up to become a member if you haven't yet.
