"Amending Through Faith" program is February 25
Community UMC in Virginia Beach

Everyone is invited to the next very important UMM Dinner Meeting at Community UMC in Virginia Beach on Monday, February 25. Todd Hoar, Men's Ministry Specialist from the York River District, will present a program on "Amending Through Faith".

This is an innovative, primary prevention initiative dedicated to ending violence against women and girls by engaging and educating men. It was started by the YWCA Nashville, Middle Tennessee, who are the operators of the largest domestic violence shelter in Tennessee, and the General Commission on United Methodist Men.

Good men must play a critical role in creating a community where all women and girls are valued and safe. Extensive work by experts in gender-based violence prevention reveal this is accomplished through education and mobilization. Only with the support and involvement of men and boys can the cycle of gender based violence be stopped.

Community UMC is located at 1072 Old Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. Fellowship starts at 6:30 pm and dinner is at 7:00. Our chefs will prepare a terrific dinner, as usual!

If you have a food alergy or other dietary concern contact Doug MIlls at  douglasmills@cox.net  or Rick Hensley at  rhensley2@verizon.net  or Walter Miles at  whmiles3@outlook.com  and we can accommodate.

All God's Children Camp is a short four months away. Children, ages 7 to 12, with an incarcerated mother or father, spend a week at camp, participating in activities such as boating, swimming, hiking, archery, music, Bible study, and conflict resolution.

Our staff has been working hard through the winter to give our campers a wonderful experience of nature, outdoor activities, arts and crafts and learning that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. I am so pleased that our mentor participation has increased for 2019! So much so that our Camp Occohannock week is full!

However, there are about 40 more spots that need to be filled for the other two weeks. Please consider joining us at Camp Chanco on the James located near the Richmond area! We would love to have you! The dates are June 16 - 21 or August 11 - 16 . Please contact Lori Smith for more information or for ways to get involved! Lori can be reached at 571-245-9591 or  lttlelori@gmail.com .

O. Box 5606, Glen Allen, VA 23058.

If anyone is interested in being a counselor, please notify Ron Rumsey at 757 692-9922 or Stacy at stacyroberts@vaumc.org . Male counselors are especially needed!
Gracious and loving God, we give You thanks for the rest of another night and for the opportunities of a new day and a new week. Father, we praise you for the healing taking place in Bishop Lewis and we pray for her speedy return to service in the Virginia Conference knowing that You will restore her to full health.

We continue to lift up the delegates to the special General Conference next week. We pray for discernment and wisdom as they seek a way forward for the United Methodist Church. We know, Father, that the church has always been under attack, but it must particularly sadden Your heart when those attacks come from within the church. When this conference is behind us we pray that unity might quickly be restored through the power of Holy Spirit and that we might be able to return to the business of “making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

We also pray for our local pastors and church leaders as they carry that burden of restoration within our congregations. Fill them with Your spirit. As leaders within our congregations help us to be the encouragers they need to meet the heavy demands of ministry especially during this period of restoration.

We pray these things in the powerful and holy name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

In Christ's Service,
