"Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay, but we can honor their sacrifice."

-Barack Obama

Warm weather and sunshine is upon us as is Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start to the Summer season. While we enjoy barbecues and gatherings this holiday weekend, let us never forget the meaning behind Memorial Day: a time to remember those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the freedom we continue to enjoy. We are pleased to remind everyone about the return of the Memorial Day Parade this year! Please consider attending to honor the members of our military who died in the line of duty bravely serving our country. The parade will step off from Smith's Clove Park at 1:30 p.m. and conclude with a ceremony at the Monroe Cemetery located on Route 17M (across from Sterling Bank).

Thankfully, we have been trending in a positive direction the past several weeks as we begin to regain some sense of normalcy! To this end, we are pleased to announce the reopening of Town Hall to the public on Tuesday, June 1st. Following Governor Cuomo’s adoption of the CDC guidelines lifting the mask mandate for vaccinated individuals, masks will no longer be required at town buildings for individuals who are fully vaccinated (*you are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after your 2nd dose of the vaccine).  Individuals who are immunocompromised or are unvaccinated should continue to wear masks and socially distance. Please be advised that all visitors will continue to partake in a temperature screening upon arrival to all town buildings until further notice. Lastly, please continue to be respectful of others by remaining at home should you feel ill or exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19.

Thank you for your continued cooperation. Let's all look forward to a fun-filled, safe Summer ahead.

Cordially,

Monroe Senior Center Reopens

After a year of closure due to COVID, the Monroe Senior Center recently reopened its doors much to the delight of the Senior population as well as Senior Center Director, Ann Marie Morris.

Reflecting upon recent times, Ann Marie said "It has been a challenging year, particularly for our Senior population, many whom rely on the Senior Center as a vital part of their socialization. I am pleased to welcome the Seniors back and look forward to expanding our activities in the weeks ahead. The level of excitement and happiness amongst the Seniors is truly heartwarming."

Following a detailed reopening plan focused on the safety and well being of all visitors, the center has slowly eased back into a modified schedule that includes member favorites such as Bingo and select exercise classes. Each week will continue to introduce additional activities, slowly and safely. For more information on the Monroe Senior Center, please contact Ann Marie Morris at 783-9486.

Troop 440 Continues to Shine in the Town of Monroe!

A special thank you to Eagle Scout candidate Jack Thau of Troop 440 for his efforts in completing the first phase of his Eagle Scout project at Town Hall. Jack and his fellow troop members recently planted several Green Mountain Boxwood bushes evenly spaced out around the perimeter of the patio. In addition, three Colorado Blue Spruce trees were planted in the area in front of the windows of the new court room at Town Hall for privacy.

In the near future, Jack will be completing the remainder of his project by constructing five handicap accessible wood picnic tables to be placed on the rear deck of Town Hall. In addition, Jack is arranging to have a memorial perpetual plaque made with 24 plates for engraving the names of first responders, who were residents of the Town of Monroe, and died in the line of duty, regardless of the department in which they served.
