Exodus 21:22-25 - Fair or Foul?

Exodus 21:22-25 - Fair or Foul?
This week's Torah portion. Mishpatim, contains text that has been notoriously misinterpreted by Jewish abortion advocates as a biblically - and therefore somehow righteous - justification for denying the value of life in the womb. This misuse of Exodus 21:22-25 is completely understandable because most online and in print articles, essays, and opinion pieces on abortion in Judaism repeat the erroneous translation of the text. This interpretation is generally reflected in comments from the pulpit and within our peer groups, allowing little room for intellectual or religious curiosity on the subject.

Our newsletter this week features a blog post correcting this error. Our esteemed board member, Rabbi Shlomo Nachman, provides a life affirming, common sense interpretation of Exodus 21:22-25 that we can all embrace and share. May God open up hearts and minds as we offer this information to our readers.
✡︎
May there be abundant peace from Heaven, and good life upon us and upon all Israel. Amen.
Cecily
