President's Messages

Playing golf for your health - According to the lead article on the Golf and Health website; Golf is played by some 55 million people, on 32,000 courses in over 200 countries.” This is pretty impressive, but even more so is the fact that all of these people could actually be substantially benefiting their health in the process!

These health benefits are not just unique to the professional players either, in fact, former British Prime Minister David Lloyd George viewed less talented golfers as reaping more benefits than those bestowed upon the likes of Rory McIlroy & Annika Sorenstam: ”Golf is the only game where the worst player gets the best of it. He obtains more out of it as regards both exercise and enjoyment, for the good player gets worried over the slightest mistake, whereas the poor player makes too many mistakes to worry about them.”

A landmark Scandinavian study of over 300,000 golfers estimated they lived a remarkable 5 years longer than those who do not play golf, regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic status. Evidence also suggests that golf has a role in preventing and treating many chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes and through regular use can help strengthen bones and prevent hip fractures.

That said we are glad to announce that we will be offering many chances for you to participate in leagues, events, tournaments to hone your golf skills, have fun with you golfing and non-golfing friend who want to learn how to play the game and maintain a healthy life style.

2019 Handicap Benefit
Important Changes

During the last few months, there has been considerable discussion regarding the handicap benefit through GolfNet. After a great deal of deliberation and feedback, including during the recent leader calls this week, the following decision has been made regarding the LPGA Amateurs handicap benefit for 2019 and beyond. Members will be informed of the changes early next week as we have inundated their inboxes enough the past few days.  (Please note that complete details are available at this link) .
  • The Member benefit of accessing a handicap through GolfNet will remain intact through 2019 for ALL current and new members. (This is a change from what we discussed earlier this week.)
  • Beginning January 1, 2020, the handicap benefit through LPGA Amateurs will be eliminated. ALL members will be responsible for obtaining a handicap through their State and Regional Golf Association or through a third party, such as GolfNet.
  • Members joining or renewing mid-year during 2019 will receive the GolfNet benefit for just the remaining months left in the year and not for a 12-month period as was the case in the past.
  •  Example: If a Member joins or renews on July 1, 2019 - that Member will receive the benefit for a total of 6 months with the benefit ending December 31, 2019.
  • The handicap benefit will remain on the website and will be included in all benefit communications BUT will be marked with a disclaimer noting that the benefit will officially end December 31, 2019.
