ACF awards $250,000 in first-ever capital grant cycle

Major renovations to the Akron Civic Theatre, a training facility for commercial driver's license seekers at Stark State, and building improvements for agencies combating homelessness are just a few of the 27 grants approved during Akron Community Foundation's first-ever capital grant cycle. Nearly 5 percent of Akron's population is made up of foreign-born residents, according to the International Institute of Akron. Community Legal Aid Services provides free legal assistance during the resettlement process, helping refugees overcome obstacles related to health, housing, education and basic needs. Recently, the agency got a $20,000 boost thanks to a grant approved during our Health & Human Services cycle. Learn more about this and the 49 other programs receiving funding this quarter.

New fund supports child advocacy in Summit Countynewfunds
The CASA Endowment Fund is one of 13 new funds recently established at Akron Community Foundation. The agency endowment fund will support the organization's work to recruit, train and support volunteers who speak up for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system.
