New Year Mass

The first Mass of the year was held January 11 with Rev. Michael J. Alello and sponsored by National Honor Society.

March for Life

More than 20 students and faculty members joined the diocesan-wide pilgrimage to March for Life to kick off the spring semester. E. D. White students have participated in the pilgrimage for more than 10 years.

Pilgrims spend quality time with each other on the bus alongside other students from the diocese as well as seminarians and other religious from the area. Along the way, the pilgrims visit religious convents, national shrines, and several landmarks including the Holocaust Museum.

Katie Sylvest '19 has been on the pilgrimage three times, each of which she said was a uniquely amazing experience. Sylvest said that although it's hard for her to pick one favorite, a couple highlights are the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the march itself because in both she experienced a "coming together of other like- minded people to stand up for all life."

Jacob Duplantis '19 has been on the pilgrimage twice, "My favorite part was being able to spend so much time with all the different vocations and learn from them," he said.

The trip paired quality time with friends, seminarians and other religious with exploration of Catholic and patriotic shrines to give the students a sense of what it means to value not only the lives of the unborn but to value their own lives and callings.

Faculty member Emily Laris who accompanied the students on the trip said, "It is important for students to attend to gain an appreciation for the beauty of the life that God grants each of us."

Close Up

E. D. White students along with faculty members participated in the Close Up program January 13-18 in Washington, D.C. The group visited the Library of Congress, the U.S. Capital, and walked the halls of congress and witnessed the legislative branch at work. On January 16, students met with Congressman Garret Graves.

Grandparents Days

Grandparents Day was celebrated on Tuesday, January 29 and Wednesday, January 30. Both days started with breakfast in the Union, which included the famous EDW "Legacy Biscuits" and gave grandparents a chance to mingle with friends. Following breakfast, grandparents then attended a special assembly that included updates on what's happening around campus, a special grandparent video presentation, and a performance by the EDW Jazz Band. After the assembly, students took their grandparents on a tour around campus. Along the route, faculty and staff members had photo stations set up where they took pictures to capture the day.

Teacher Highlight

Jordan Reed '09 earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Nicholls State University in 2014. Upon graduating, he joined the E. D. White faculty in the fall of 2014 as a member of the Science department. Currently, Reed teaches Physical Science to junior high students, as well as serving as an assistant coach to the cross country and track teams, and a co-moderator of the Key Club.

When asked what it means for him to be teaching at his alma mater, he replied, "It's really an honor for me to be back at E. D. White. I see it as an opportunity to give back to the school and community that gave so much to me in my formative years. My only wish is to provide a lasting positive impact on my students equal to that of the impact my teachers and coaches had on me."
