Can you imagine building a boat so big that you could fit two of every kind of animal inside? In Genesis chapter six, that is exactly what God told Noah to do. Noah did not have a bunch of powerful drills or strong forklifts to make building the ark any easier. He also did not have a large group of construction workers helping him! With God’s help, Noah and his three sons were able to build the huge ark all by themselves!
Bible Story: Genesis 6:13-22, 7:1-16, 8:1-19
God told Noah that the world would be flooded and instructed Noah to build a wooden ark. God gave Noah exact instructions to build the arc. Noah would need to include places for the animals to live and sleep. Noah was also going to need to cover it with tar inside and out. God told Noah he would need to bring his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives into the ark. God told Noah he would also need to bring two of every kind of bird, livestock, and crawling creature into the boat. Noah was told he would need to bring all kinds of food onto the ark. Noah did everything God told him to do.
When God told Noah it was time to load up the ark, Noah took his whole family into the ark with all of the different animals. God told Noah to take at least two of every kind of animal into the ark. Noah did everything God told him to do.
When everyone had entered the ark- Noah and his family, and all of the creatures- the rain began to fall. It rained and rained.
God did not forget Noah and the animals. God sent a wind over the earth, and the water dried up. The ark came to rest on a mountain. Noah opened a window and sent out a raven. The raven flew back and forth until the waters had dried up over the land. Then Noah sent out a dove to see if the waters on the fertile land had dried up, but the dove found no place to rest and returned to the ark.
Seven days later, Noah sent the dove out again. This time the dove returned in the evening with an olive leaf in its beak. Seven days later, Noah sent the dove out again and it did not return. Noah knew that meant the water had dried up. It was time to open the door of the ark. All of the animals and all of the people came out of the ark onto the dry land.
Big Carpenters:
Why do you think God picked Noah to build the ark? How do you think Noah got all the animals onto the ark?
Little Carpenters:
Would you like to live on a giant boat with a bunch of animals? What would you do if you were on a boat, with animals, for so long and could not leave?
