Greetings,
We hope that you are safe and well during these trying times. We are halfway through our first virtual quarter and our transition into distance learning. We want to say thank you for your patience and resilience throughout this whole process!
Now, more than ever, know that although we are physically distant, we will use all the tools, time, and technology available to us, to continue being connected. The UC San Diego community has worked tiredlessly to provide you all with different resources to support you in your academics and social interactions. As always, please feel free to reach out to the CASP team to let us know if there's anything you may need. Know that we are here to support you and see you succeed. TRITON TOOLS & TIDBIT PODCAST
|
The sudden shift to a remote learning environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic has forced UC San Diego students to adapt to new ways of learning and connecting away from the traditional campus setting.
Triton Tools & Tidbits is a podcast that is focused on discussing topics that will engage and enrich student life and education. Brought to you by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
- How can we as a campus community support each other, and our students, to succeed in this unique environment?
- What tools do students need to succeed in an era of physical distancing?
- How can students maintain connectivity to their networks in a remote environment, sustaining a sense of community while in a non-traditional campus environment?
Every Thursday, Triton Tools and Tidbits seeks to answer these questions while highlighting resources available to students across Student Affairs units and the UC San Diego campus community.

are a series of academic, professional, and technical training workshops open to all graduate and postdoctoral engineering students at the Jacobs School of Engineering.
ALL talks are on Fridays, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
Grad Talks are FREE and require students to RSVP ahead of time. Registration opens 1 week prior to the date of each talk, and will close once we reach full capacity.

Short Tales from the Mothership is inspired by the short postcard stories that sci-fi magazine editor George Hay encouraged in the 1970s. He dared such authors as Arthur C. Clarke to send sci-fi stories that easily fit onto a postcard. This event also takes inspiration from the iconic architecture of our Mothership here on the UC San Diego campus (The William Pereira-designed Geisel Library building.)
Submit a story 250 words or less by May 8th, 2020. We're hosting a virtual event on MAY 19th at 4:00pm. You're invited to read your story live at our virtual event, or we can read aloud for you. [Zoom details to follow!]

iLead is a drop-in workshop program that provides students the flexibility to choose workshop sessions on various communication and leadership topics that align with your individual interests and schedule.
You can use your CCR to help demonstrate to employers, graduate/ professional programs, and for awards the competencies and skills you gained through your experience.

The Vice Chancellor Student Affairs office understands that computer access for students is vital as we navigate the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and we are working quickly to provide access to students who are in need. We have included two helpful resources below:

MINDFULNESS AND COMPASSION SESSIONS
|
UC San Diegos Center for Mindfulness and the T. Denny Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion have joined forces with the Compassion Institute to provide daily streams and recordings of mindfulness and compassion sessions, offering resources and online support.
|
| COVID-19 NURSE LINE |
UC San Diego Health launched a COVID-19 nurse line (800-926-8273) that connects patients to nurses dedicated to screening people with respiratory symptoms associated with the new coronavirus.
|
| BASIC NEEDS:RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS |
Basic Needs refers to the most essential resources required to thrive as a student, which includes access to nutritious food, stable housing, and financial wellness resources. To support our resilient students both The Hub Basic Needs Center and Triton Food Pantry will be open for modified hours for Spring Break and Spring Quarter.
They will be updating the website and social media so stay tuned!

| CAPS SERVICES FOR SPRING 2020 |
As a reminder, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is open and available to all students for the Spring 2020. Please see the information below regarding CAPS services during COVID-19:
- CAPS IS FULLY OPERATIONAL and will remain available for business with added flexibilities of hours. Mental health providers embedded at the colleges and other units on campus will telecommute and deliver services via tele-visits or phone. Check MyChart as needed to communicate with your mental health provider.
- CAPS Central Office at Galbraith Hall 190 will remain available for urgent care visits during regular hours- M-F from 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Please call CAPS Central before arrival: 858-534-3755. After Business Hours. please call the same number and select option 2.
- Current student clients staying near campus: We are moving all scheduled session to Tele-Mental health or phone counseling. Reach out to your own provider to assist with any urgent need via MyChart.
- New to our services: Please call 858-534-3755 to schedule a Brief Tele Assessment to start working together.
- If you have an active prescription with us: Please keep your next follow up appointment though you should contact your psychiatrist via MyChart or by phone at 858-534-3755 to convert your meeting to a televisit. Let your psychiatrist know if you need a refill -- you may not need to have a visit in order to have a refill authorized. If you are leaving the area, please contact your Psychiatrist to talk through the situation. For all other inquires about medication, please call 858-534-3755 so we direct your concern to the right person.
- If you are leaving the San Diego area, contact your psychiatrist and next steps can be discussed at that time. You do not need to see your psychiatrist before leaving campus to have your prescriptions refilled. If you are leaving the country, please contact your Psychiatrist via MyChart to talk through the situation. For all other inquires about medication, please call 858-534-3755 to assist you.

COVID-19 RESOURCES FOR UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS AND FAMILIES

"My Undocumented Life," a web page with up-to-date information & resources for undocumented immigrants, have compiled a list of resources and news that can help undocumented and mixed-status families during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
They will update this page frequently so be sure to bookmark it and share it with your networks!

| UCSD RECREATION PRESENTS: THE PLAYGROUND |
The Playground
is
a space where students and the UC San Diego community can get active, creative, meditative and stay fit through online classes, informative articles and virtual Rec programming.
Recreation Online will bring you to the vast library of prerecorded content from Rec trainers and instructors that can be accessed anytime. Recreation Live classes will be hosted via Zoom or Facebook/Instagram Live @UCSDrec. A schedule will be updated weekly which will show the date, time and platform where they can be accessed. Classes will be a mix of fitness, DIY and fine arts from Rec instructors like guitar and Capoeira.

HACU NATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
|
Whether you're seeking an internship with the federal government or in the corporate sector, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) offers students a variety of opportunities to allow you to graduate with career experience. For over 27 years, the HACU National Internship Program has partnered with organizations seeking to diversify their workforce.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited institution in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Recent graduates are eligible for a limited number of internships
- Must have completed freshman year
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- 3.0 GPA is recommended and not required on a 4.0 scale
- Be authorized or eligible to work by law in the U.S.
TRAVEL AND HOUSING
- Round-trip airfare for interns is arranged and paid by HACU.
- Federal interns can choose to arrange their own housing or can request HACUarranged housing. Federal interns in HACU-arranged housing pay through payroll deductions and corporate interns pay via electronic funds transfer.

Are you interested in participating in an annual writing competition? The Department of Literature is holding their annual Stewart Prize in Poetry and Milton Saier Award in Fiction. Students participating may submit up to 5 poems for the Stewart Prize in Poetry and one piece of fiction (15 pages max) for the Milton Saier Award in Fiction.
Deadline for Submission is Monday, May 4th, 2020!

UC SURVEY FOR UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS AND STUDENTS WITH IMMIGRANT PARENTS

Participate in the UC wide survey for undocumented students and students with immigrant parents! The study aims to understand the impact of current immigration policies and helps to identify ways to promote the educational success and wellbeing of undocumented students.
The survey takes approximately 35 minutes and you will receive a $10 amazon gift card for your time.

Ensure your continued success at UC San Diego! Second-year students are encouraged to sign up for 2Excel or 2Connect offering community, advising, and other resources to help you deal with second-year issues, topics, and challenges.
2Excel
2Excel provides holistic support through personal, academic, and professional development.
How to apply:
- You must be a second-year student who entered UC San Diego as a freshman to apply to the program (no transfer students)
- Program capacity is limited to 170 students
- Submit an online application by spring quarter of your freshman year; registration is open for the 2019-20 academic year
Expectations:
- Year-long participation from fall quarter to spring quarter
- Required attendance at a minimum of 2 workshops per quarter
- Mandatory meetings with your peer mentor 3 times per quarter
- Enrollment in EDS 23 (a 2-unit, pass/no-pass seminar offered winter quarter)
- Completion of a program assessment exercise at the end of the academic year
2Connect
Compared to the
2Excel
program, the 2Connect program provides more personal freedom and self-directed participation, following your individual needs.
How to apply:
- You must be a second-year student to register for the program
- All second-year UC San Diego students are welcome (unlimited capacity)

Located in the Geisel Library, the Writing Hub offers every UC San Diego student free one-on-one help with any writing project-from cover letters to lab reports, research papers to grant proposals. Visit the Writing Hub to meet with a supportive, well-trained peer writing mentor who will help you gain perspective on what works and what can be improved in your writing.
