A Note from Mrs. Ryan
Dear Parents,

This morning the Press Democrat reported that Sonoma County was unable to move into the Red Tier as had been anticipated. This was partially due to the evacuation, necessitated by the Glass Fire, of many members of the public health lab staff. I have been informed that the earliest schools could open, once the county achieves Red Tier, is four weeks. Meanwhile, we are monitoring the situation closely and are continuing to plan for the safe re-opening of in-person learning. This morning a St. Rose mom asked me, “How are we ever going to get through this school year?” My answer was “We are just going to keep putting one foot in front of the other and pray.”

We are aware that at least twenty St. Rose families have been under mandatory evacuation orders, although some may have been allowed to go home by now. As far as we know, none of our school families has lost their home. We realize that everyone has been negatively impacted one way or another. Please be sure to notify your child’s teacher if he or she is having a particularly rough time.

Although a large percentage of families indicated they would support a virtual Walk-a-Thon, due to the extended fire season, we are postponing the event until spring, in hopes that we can all be together for the traditional Walk-a-Thon on the Cardinal Newman track.

I greatly appreciate our room parents who are working to make our Halloween drive-by on Friday, October 30th, a fun event for your children (No time has been set yet for the drive-by event), and
for Ms. KC, who is organizing the virtual Halloween parade.

Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
Principal
REPORT YOUR CHILD'S ABSENCE TO THE OFFICE
We are recording attendance during distance learning. Absence codes teachers are marking:
  • Tardy: If your child is not logged into class by 8:10am and before 9:30am - they are late.
  • Late arrival: If your child enters class after 9:30am with no excused reason (counts as partial day absence)
  • Early Dismissal: If your child leaves class with no excused reason and doesn't return. (counts as partial day absence)
  • Absence: If your child is not in class at all. (counts as full day absence)
  • Medical appointments: during school hours will be an 'excused absence' only if the parent notifies the office of the time and nature of the appointment (Ortho, Dental, regular Doctor visit, etc.) Missing school due to illness or any other reason is always marked as an absence.

All of the above are considered unexcused absences, except for a Medical appointment reported by the parent. (Please note considerations are made for special circumstances, decided upon and approved by administration)

PLEASE REPORT YOUR CHILD'S ABSENCE by calling 545-0379 and select #1.
OR email Ms. KC at: k_paul@sonic.net
What is 7th and 8th grade up to?
8th Grade - Walk a Day in my shoes! Each student shoe represents places they've been, things they've done, etc.
8th Grade - these may be hard to see, but Mrs. B has hung the 8th graders self portraits in the classroom. These portraits will be used for their autobiography covers that they will be writing. It's as if they're actually in the classroom, well in spirit anyway!
7th Grade - A Roman Empire Social Studies unit with Mrs. B, final project.
7th Grade Literature: Greek Mythology Unit with Mrs. B. Mythology Character cards.
They are beautiful!
