Gabriella* and her three siblings go to the Boys & Girls Clubs in Nyeland Acres. This year, our club has meant more than ever before. When they lost their mother to COVID-19, the club was a place where they could grieve and find comfort.
Today is Gabriella's 15th birthday. One of the last things Gabby did with her mom was start planning her quinceñera.
If you aren't familiar, a quinceñera celebrates a young woman's transition into adulthood. It is an important celebration, part of a young woman's journey towards their great future.
Gabby deserves this celebration.
Monique, the club director, and her staff began to make this quince a reality. One staff donated the dress from her own party. Another is baking a cake. All our members will decorate.
At 4 p.m. on Friday, Gabby will get her quinceñera at the her second home, the Boys & Girls Club.
The celebration will be small, and in line with our COVID protocols, but it will be special.
