Dan Feferman, "3rd Time’s a Charm: Corona Helps Israel Finally Form a New Government"
Sunday, May 3, 11:00am CDT (live from Israel via Zoom)
BYOB - Bring Your Own Bagels
After 3 elections and over 1 year without a functioning government, Israel’s two rival parties found a way to form a unity government. Together, we will understand Israel’s quirky political system, the major issues on Israel’s public agenda, and its major players. We will learn what all this means for Israel’s foreign policy and its relationship with Diaspora Jewry.
Dan Feferman is a Major (res.) in the Israel Defense Forces and a fellow at the Jewish People Policy Institute, a leading think-tank focusing on issues of importance to Israel and the Jewish people, where he researches religious pluralism in Israel, trends in Jewish identity, and Israel-Diaspora relations. He is also a political and communications consultant and publishes and speaks widely on the Middle East and Israeli defense and political matters. Some of you might know his parents. :-) Read more about Dan, his lecture topics, published works and media appearances at DanFeferman.com.
RSVP by Friday, May 1  to get the Zoom link. Meeting information will be emailed to you automatically when your registration is approved. A reminder message will be sent out on Sunday shortly before the program begins. Please visit federationonline.org/upcoming-events#Feferman  or click below to register directly on Zoom:

Houdini: The Elusive American
by Eric Begley
Monday, May 4, 7:00pm (VIA ZOOM)
Get the e-book for $14.04 from Amazon or Google Play
From the prizewinning Jewish Lives series, an exuberant biography of the world’s greatest escape artist. Born Erik Weisz in Budapest in 1874, Houdini grew up an impoverished Jewish immigrant in the Midwest and became world-famous thanks to talent, industry, and ferocious determination. He concealed as a matter of temperament and professional ethics the secrets of his sensational success. Nobody knows how Houdini performed some of his dazzling, death-defying tricks, and nobody knows, finally, why he felt compelled to punish and imprison himself over and over again. Must a self-liberator also be a self-torturer? Tracking the restless Houdini’s wide-ranging exploits, acclaimed biographer Adam Begley asks the essential question: What kind of man was this?

Chai Mitzvah Adult EducationNew Series: Mussar
Next Session: Saturday, May 2, 10:30am
We are pleased to announce the new Chai Mitzvah - Adult Education series taking place on Zoom. Classes will be held every other Saturday. The subject for the coming months is the study of "Mussar", a Jewish spiritual practice that gives concrete instructions on how to live a meaningful and ethical life. It is virtue-based ethics—based on the idea that by cultivating inner virtues, we improve ourselves. This is in contrast to most Jewish ethical teachings, which are rule-based. Today, a number of people who do not follow traditional Jewish rules and rituals are attracted to Mussar because it offers opportunities for personal transformation through a Jewish lens. Each of the 11 sessions will be led by Rabbi Damsky and will explore a different inner virtue (such as wisdom, generosity, humility, responsibility) through discussion and Jewish texts. The class starts at 10:30 a.m.- we open up the Zoom for "brunch" visiting at 10:00 am and you can drop in any time. All are welcome!
Please RSVP to templeisraelmiller@gmail.com for the Zoom link and the class materials.
