Five months and counting, that’s how long we’ve been enduring through and working to silence this pandemic. Although we’re not out of the grip of fear associated with this hideous virus, it’s good to know that according to the latest data released by the County, Escondido has done a really good job of following the guidelines for social distancing, wearing a mask when outdoors and our numbers reflect this. Our overall percentage of positives to the number of tests administered is below the County
median average.
68 days and counting until the November elections. How do I know? I follow the election countdown clock timer featured prominently on the Chamber’s website home page. Check it out.
Along those lines, I just got through with a call finalizing the details of the Chamber joining with the Times-Advocate to hold a series of election Candidate Forums jointly. The plan is to bring candidates together in a
3-week series of Thursday evening forums, allowing you the voters to hear first hand from the candidates. We're keeping it local. Stay tuned for details as they unfold.
I also want to congratulate the City for some well-earned kudos as reported in last Sunday’s Union Tribune, recognizing the efforts made by the City to help businesses in Escondido during this pandemic. If you
missed it, a link to the article is here.
And, see if you can add to this list of retail name brands from the past: Fedco, Gemco, Roos Atkins, Rhodes, White Front, Alpha Beta, and Walker Scott. Send in your list of names, and we’ll add them to the list of all but forgotten retailers from the past.
The Chamber is here to help assure that your retail brand does not end up on this list. Join the Chamber and help make a difference. For more info on Chamber membership, go to this link.
And, finally, I want to thank Pastor Tim Spivey for his taking us on a behind the scenes look at the renovation his New Vintage Church has sparked along Grand Avenue. The Grand Project is very near
completion, and it was a fantastic opportunity we had to take a peek at what is in store for us all.
Sincerely,
James Rowten (JR)
