Bus Garage Public Consultation Process
|
|
|
The Town of Qualicum Beach Council has unanimously decided to await the completion of public consultation before making any further decisions about the Town-owned land at Fern Road and Memorial Avenue.
The following motion was unanimously adopted on January 30, 2020:
“THAT the Town will not complete any land sales on the Fern Road and Memorial Avenue property until:
1. The Bus Garage/Qualicum Commons public consultation process and the Vancouver Island University planning process have been completed, in order to ensure that public concerns are adequately addressed and that the long-term vision can be accommodated; and
2. A Request for Proposals and/or tendering process has been completed by Council.”
|
|
Mayor Brian Wiese says, “We have been through a complicated process in pursuit of the multiple benefits for the community, and it is now a priority for Council that our residents and stakeholders are fully consulted in the upcoming months.”
The Town looks forward to working together with the community to shape the future of this important part of the Town.

The School Connector Route project is now underway! This project will connect the existing east-west multi-use pathway in three places, including Hoylake Trail, Harlech Road and Berwick Crossing.
This project advances the Town’s OCP and Age Friendly Transportation goals of having a continuous east-west multi-use pathway, which will create a safe, paved connector for all users, but especially for children who travel to and from school on the trails.
|
|
|
Trails are currently under construction and Hoylake Rd West (between Arbutus and Canyon Crescent) is temporarily closed between 7am and 4pm until Friday January 31, to ensure public safety during construction.
This project will be completed by March 2020.

The snow took us by surprise earlier this month! A week later there was nothing left!
The Town would like to take the credit for this transformation, but think that maybe the rain had a little something to do with it too!
Regardless, the Town crews did an amazing job keeping the Town clear! Here is the breakdown of what the crews were busy doing!
- Crews removed over 500 cubic metres of snow from the uptown area.
- Crews plowed 24/7 from Monday night to Saturday morning, with some time off on Thursday night.
The Town would like to thank residents for their patience during this period, and also for all the residents who cleared their sidewalks. This went a long way to increasing accessibility for those that opted to walk rather than drive during the snowy period.
Lots of great reports were also heard of neighbours helping each other out! Wonderful to hear!
