everyone deserves a life of dignity and opportunity – and we can work together to make that idea a reality.
This is exactly what Inclusive Communities works for each and every day. From Omaha and Queer Table Talks, to IncluCity Camps, to LeadDIVERSITY, and beyond, we strive to give everyone in our community a voice, and show that they are valued and important.
So this Valentine's Day let’s use the holiday to celebrate our common humanity and extend love and compassion to everyone in our community.

Bobby Brumfield -
Humanitarian of the Year
Congratulations to Bobby Brumfield, who will be honored with the Humanitarian
of the
Year Award at the annual Humanitarian Brunch on April 19!
Brumfield is the co-founder of The Men Against Domestic Violence Action Coalition (MADVAC) - a prevention based entity formed to provide outreach, training, support and resources for boys, men & the leadership of organizations in the public and private sectors. The organization serves as Speakers, Trainers & Mentors to help end Domestic and Sexual Violence in our communities. Brumfield owns his own security consulting firm and with his experience as a former Omaha Police officer, he assists leaders with the security culture and crisis prevention designs that protect businesses and build safer communities.
“My personal motto in the security industry is that ‘human connection is the most sustainable security strategy,’” says Brumfield about his vitally important work. “Omaha has some fantastic organizations, but at the very top of those is Inclusive Communities. To learn that I was selected Humanitarian of the Year from an organization that I respect, floored me.”
“Each year we think about those individuals in the community who are giving of their own personal time and energy to invest back,” said Inclusive Communities Executive Director Maggie Wood. “When you look at the breadth of Bobby’s work, he is an outstanding representation of a true humanitarian in our community and a perfect choice for this year’s Humanitarian of the Year Award.”

Inclusive Communities Announces New Partnership with Bellevue University
New Educational Series Will Create
Transformational Change in Local Leaders
Inclusive Communities has announced a partnership with Bellevue University to offer a new educational workshop series designed to bring diversity, equity and inclusion into the leadership skills that front-line leaders need to be successful.
The Transformational Leadership Series, which begins May 28, is unique in the Omaha metro area, said Tena Hahn-Rodriguez, Inclusive Communities Senior Program Partner, because it addresses the needs of emerging leaders who are grappling with the complexities of integrating diverse perspectives to drive competitive business outcomes. “The leaders who complete this program will not only understand how equity and inclusion contribute to success, they’ll be able to truly leverage it to achieve business strategies in their own organizations,” Hahn-Rodriguez said. “As they are transformed, their organizations and our community will change for the better."
Said Bellevue University President Dr. Mary Hawkins, “the university is proud to partner with Inclusive Communities on such an important program. The workforce is changing, and graduates of this program will be able to immediately impact the talent pipeline in their organizations.”
The Transformational Leadership Series consists of five sessions focused on leader identity; intentional diversity, equity and inclusion; coaching for performance; succession planning; and operationalizing the value of diversity. Experienced instructors and faculty from the Bellevue University College of Continuing and Professional Education will teach and lead the interactive sessions. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) are available for the program.
The series is open to anyone. Non-profit employees and members of the Commitment to Opportunity Diversity and Equity (CODE) group through the Greater Omaha Chamber receive a special program price. Scholarship opportunities are available, as well, depending upon financial need.

Volunteer Spotlight: Koenig|Dunne

The Koenig|Dunne team spent the afternoon of Martin Luther King Jr. Day helping Inclusive Communities prepare for our January IncluCity youth camp. The team spent their time taking inventory and preparing camp materials, a tedious task that they handled with an infectious sense of enthusiasm. It was a pleasure having them in the office and with their assistance, January IncluCity was an indisputable success!

January IncluCity: In the Books!

Students from Benson, Bellevue East, Bellevue West, Omaha South and Ralston came together at Carol Joy Holling last month to engage in dialogue confronting bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination. Many wonderful friendships were made and the delegates did not want to leave!
IncluCity is made possible by our amazing volunteer staff who make every delegate feel valued and respected - THANK YOU!
Our next camp is in March with delegates from Bryan, Blackburn, Marian, Omaha South, LincoIn Northeast and Lincoln High.

Training for Trainers
Inclusive Communities will provide over 20 hours of training on ORID method, foundational terms, and basics of Identity, Language, and Bias.
The training will address the following:
- History and basics of the ORID facilitation method
- Discuss and practice skills creating brave spaces for facilitating dialogues around identity
- Look at the emotional and cognitive response to this knowledge and how each individual interprets their role in the perpetuation of the particular topic
- Discuss how we utilize this information for programming that can change the norms around identity and discrimination and prejudice in the workplace and community.
