Booster Club Student-Athlete Scholarship
The Homestead High School Athletic Booster Club is proud to announce the 2019-20 Student-Athlete Scholarship to be awarded to HHS senior student athletes who are current members of the HHS Booster Club.
Four (4) Scholarships, each worth $1000, will be awarded to HHS senior student-athletes recognizing:
- Excellence and Leadership in Athletics
- Contributions to the HHS Student-Athlete Community
All applications must be completed and submitted to the HHS Counseling Office by 3:00 PM on Friday, April 3rd, 2020.
NO LATE ENTRIES ACCEPTED! Scholarship winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in May.

February 7, 2020, HOME COURT, WISC. – Last week, the Lady Highlanders added two more little snowballs to their now 11-3 conference record pocket, after rolling up Grafton 65-53 and squeezing West Bend East 63-41. Solidly in second place, Elsa’s dream team has four remaining shivering shoe shaking charlatans in her path, before bundling up the season.
Orange Snowball. The Blackahawks have the best shooting percentage in the conference, which actually means very little when facing superior coaching and one of the best defenses in the conference. Plus, if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride! Well, Homestead’s ballers trained to ride the Grafton offense, throw them off balance and force them to take errant shots. Coach loovvves it when a plan comes together! But you can’t win games unless you make your shots and nobody knew that better than Khendel Rolison, Braylin Smith and Freshman Delaney Buzzell, who were all-in on double digits, scoring 59 together! Friends call them Score Misers. Whatever they touch. Turns to scores in their clutch! They're too much! [Khendel 23, Braylin 18, Delaney 15]. Grace Mueller snapped up 11 rebounds and added 5 points to Annie Wilkes misery. McKenna Marotta added another four. Early lead, up 11 at half and it was easy sledding to the finish line.
Red Snowball. WB East came out with their gloves on - ready for a fight - aiming to add a third conference win to their season 😱. These are the games you have to watch out for – early play was back and forth, with our Highlanders lagging a few times, and ending the half with a slippery 19-15 edge. But those east pikes had peaked, the dog went on the picnic basket, put a fork in them, they were done. Suit up! Outscoring them 44-26 in the second half, every Homestead player was on the court at some point, with scores from 10 of them! It was legen—wait for it –dary! In the final minutes, East was unbeknownstly playing five of our JV superstars 😱. The team was all game blissness. Taking out the Suns. They gave them heat blisters. Shoulda scored one hundred and one!

The gymnastics team competed twice this week, Wednesday against Whitefish Bay and Saturday the Bradley Invitational at Whitefish bay. On Wednesday, although the Varsity team had a strong performance 135.475 they were not able to beat WFB 139.575. However, Taylor Raskin had an amazing night winning all four events (vault: 9.425, bars: 9.55, beam: 9.175, floor: 9.35) and also took first place in the all-around scoring 37.45. Lucy Gonzalez completed a beautiful floor routine taking second place with an 8.95. and fourth all-around (34.225).
The JV team scored 113.9 to Whitefish Bay’s 124.8 with Payton Berryman placing 2nd on floor.
The girls traveled to Whitefish Bay on Saturday for the Bradley Invite
There were 15 teams attending the event. Lucy Gonzalez got seventh on vault with an 8.8. The team placed seventh with a score of 129.1.
This week they are off to Hartford Union.

Varsity
Homestead Boys Varsity traveled to Grafton on Tuesday last week for their second match up with them of the season. The first half was a back and forth on scoring with neither team going up more than four points at any given time. At the halftime break, Grafton led by one with a score of 23-22. Much like the first half, the teams traded baskets until there was about five minutes left in the game when Grafton went up by five. Homestead responded and kept it to within three until 3:24 left in the game when Grafton went ahead by seven. Homestead responded and kept it to five. Grafton went back up by seven and then Declan Ciurlik hit a 3-point shot to get within four with 2:30 left to play. Unfortunately that would be as close as the Highlanders could get. They lost the contest 64-58. Ciurlik led all scorers with 31 followed by Ethan Endres (13), Miles Davis (10), and Ethan Kelly (4). Both Ethan Endres and Kelly had 5 rebounds and Ciurlik, Kelly and Sam Lococo all had 4 assists.
On Friday the team traveled to West Bend East for a Thursday night matchup against the Suns. The Highlanders got off to a quick start the first three minutes of the game going up 7-0. The Suns eventually responded and the two teams traded baskets much of the first half but the Highlanders maintained a lead at the break 29-25. After the break, the teams once again traded baskets until a push by West Bend East put them ahead with 12 minutes left in the game. West Bend remained ahead until the 8:30 marked when Homestead tied it up at 39. Homestead made a push with to go up by six with just over a minute in the game. West Bend was able to get within three twice but ultimately fell to Homestead. The final score was 57-52. Declan Ciurlik and Ethan Endres led all scorers, each with 14 followed by Miles Davis (12), Kam Westbrooke (6), Sam Lococo (5), Keelan Allen (4), and Mitchell Tebon (2). Great game on both ends of the floor boys!
Next up for Varsity is a home game Tuesday at 7:15pm vs. Whitefish Bay and an away game Friday at 7:15pm vs. Hartford.

Junior Varsity
JV Boys began the week with an away game at Grafton on Tuesday. The whole season has been a season of close games and this one was no different. The boys went into halftime leading 36-30. The second half ended up going Grafton's way and Homestead ended up losing the contest by just 3 points. Gavin Jensen had a terrific day offensively leading all scorers with 22 followed by Solomon Garrison (14), Ilia Mikhailenko (8), Jack Crowley (6), Ryan Kennedy (4), Saarang Patel (3), and Michael Fallucca and Luke Ladd (each with 2).
The boys were on the road again Thursday, traveling to West Bend East for their second game of the week. Once again, this game was a close one! Both teams were slow getting things started. After six minutes of play the Suns led the Highlanders by just a score of 3-2. Things continued to be cool on the offensive end for both teams the rest of the half. There were many open looks at the basket but the shots were just not falling. The Suns went into halftime leading 18-12. West Bend continued to lead the majority of the second half but Homestead kept it close. With 2:15 left in the game Luke Ladd hit the go ahead basket for Homestead putting them up by two. With 47 seconds left in the game, the Suns tied the game at 36, but then fouled Solomon Garrison. He hit both free throws but West Bend came down the other end of the floor and hit a 3 point shot putting them up by one. Homestead had the ball with 30 seconds left and offensive rebounding came up big. A rebound by Garrison kept the ball alive. Ryan Kennedy had the next offensive rebound that led to a put back basket, and a foul on the shot for the "AND ONE". This had Homestead up by one with 1.9 seconds left to play. Kennedy missed the free throw on purpose and West Bend did not have enough time to get down the floor for a good look at the basket. Homestead won a close one 40-39.
Next up for JV is a HOME game Tuesday against Whitefish Bay @ 5:45pm and an AWAY game Friday against Hartford @ 5:45pm.

JV2
JV2 continued their winning streak and maintained their undefeated record for yet another week. They served up two crushing blows, first to Grafton and then to West Bend East. Homestead faced Grafton on Tuesday night and despite their home court advantage, the Blackhawks never took flight thanks to the strength of our Highlander defense. The game ended with the Highlanders defeating the Blackhawks by 23 points.
The Homestead JV2 team hit the road again on Thursday night when they faced West Bend East. They started strong right out of the gate and continued to dominate in the second half as well, ultimately claiming a 64-18 victory. Top scorers were Stefan Ivancevic (13), Chris Djurasovic (12), Jack Lueck (11), Anthony Chung (9), and Jack Gruen (8).
Rebounds, steals and blocks abounded in both games. The teams’ offense was strong across the board with every single player scoring in one or both of the games this week.
The team returns home to face Whitefish Bay tonight, Tuesday, February 11th at 5:45 PM in the Auxillary Gym. Come cheer them on as they defend their winning record and face the Blue Dukes.

Freshman Reserve
It was a great night for basketball on Monday, February 3rd! Our Freshman Reserve team started out strong against the Grafton A team, with 6 rebounds by Prunskus and 13 points by Varney. We ended the first half with a slight lead of 20 to 18.
The second half was a battle back and forth leading to a tie game with 9:23 to go. Thanks to the rebounding of Zurbuchen and Prunskus with 6 rebounds a piece, and 11 points by Prunskus, we were able to pull off a win 47 to 37.
Thanks to the efforts of all, and scores by Varney (19), Prunskus (13), Schaefer (5), Ruppel (4), Farrell (3), Gill (2), and Zurbuchen (1).

This weekend the Highlander jugmen swam at Whitefish Bay for the conference championships. They took third place overall as a team behind Whitefish Bay and Cedarburg! There were many top 6 individual finishes. The jugmen travel to Waukesha South on Saturday, February 15 for sectionals at 12:00pm.
Highlights from conference started with our diver,
- David Kroll finishing 5th overall.
- The 200 medley relay team of Devin Testin, Alex Johnson, Mark Hartlieb and Luke Appazeller finished 3rd overall.
- Drew Testin took 6th in the 200 freestyle followed by Ivan Diaz in 10th and Adam Cook in 17th.
- Connor Kwiatkowski took 5th in the 200 IM followed by Alex Johnson in 7th.
- Mark Hartlieb took 7th in the 50 freestyle, Joe Lorenz came in 9th, Neekan Nasiri took 12th and Jacob Appazeller took 14th.
- Mark Hartlieb took 3rd in the 100 butterfly, Ivan Diaz took 5th followed by Luke Appazeller in 6th place and Ben Martyn in 13th place.
- Jude Toppe swam in the 100 freestyle taking 12th place and Jacob Appazeller came in 17th place.
- Devin Testin finished 3rd in the 500 freestyle, Drew Testin finished 6th and John Horter took 11th. Adam Cook took 14th.
- The 200 freestyle relay team of Joe Lorenz, Connor Kwiatkowski, Jude Toppe and Alex Johnson came in 5th place.
- Devin Testin took second in the 100 backstyle and Luke Appazeller took 7th followed by Neekan Nasiri who took 11th.
- Connor Kwiatkowski came in 4th in the 100 breaststroke followed by Alex Johnson in 7th and Jude Toppe in 8th and Ben Martyn in 11th.
- The 400 freestyle relay team of Mark Hartlieb, Joe Lorenz, Luke Appazeller and Devin Testin took 3rd place overall out touching Nicolet at the wall.

The final regular season ski race for the Homestead Boys and Girls Ski Team took place on February 5th. The team traveled to Alpine Valley for a giant slalom race against Brookfield Central, Badger High School and Mukwonago. Best wishes to those Highlanders who will represent Homestead at State next weekend! And to those who wrapped up their race season for Homestead on the 5th; be it your first season or last, many congratulations. Everyone gave their all, making it a fun and memorable season. HOMESTEAD WRESTLING!
Last Friday several of our wrestlers participated in Conference Championships up in Hartford @ Hartford High School. Coach Millard was thrilled to be able to fill almost every weight class for the competition! Congratulations to all of the wrestlers for giving it their all out on those mats!
