South Brunswick Senior Center
Office on Aging

May is Older American’s Month, a time to celebrate the contributions of older adults to the nation.

The 2021 theme is 'Communities of Strength.  Older adults have built resilience and strength over their lives through successes, failures, joys, and difficulties. In tough times, communities find strength in people — and people find strength in their communities. In the past year, we’ve seen this time and again in South Brunswick, as friends, neighbors, and businesses have found new ways to support each other. In our community, older adults are a key source of this strength. Through their experiences, successes, and difficulties, they have built resilience that helps them to face new challenges. When communities tap into this, they become stronger too.

I am proud to be part of this community and I'm thrilled that many of you took advantage of programs and services that the Senior Center has offered throughout the pandemic. I hope we played a supportive role for you in these challenging times and be assured we will continue to do so. Assistance such as benefits counseling and social work services have never stopped during these past months; stay tuned as the weather warms and we are able to expand our curriculum of programs, activities and services.

In honor of Older American's Month and 'YOU', we have two programs that are taking place outside in the pavilion in Reichler Park (please see below).

Both programs require pre-registration (which begins Wednesday, May 5th at 9:00 AM). For all registrations please speak to Jasmine or a staff member that picks up extension 7670. Please do not leave a message with registration information, it will not be honored. Also please note that all covid19 protocols are in place for all programs.

The first program (May 12th at 11 AM) is sponsored by the South Brunswick Police Department. Lieutenant Gene Rickle will lead us in a discussion about scams.

You may think you are a 'savvy senior' (and I hope you are) but, I bet you will learn something from our expert and hear about the most-up-to-date ways unsavory actors may try to take advantage of you. Of course there will be an opportunity for Q and A and light refreshments well be served.

Our second program will be on May 19th starting at 11 AM. Please join our Senior Center Staff, Mayor Charlie Carley, Deputy Mayor Joe Camarota, Council Members Jo Hochman, Archana Grover, and Ken Bierman, Chief of Police Ray Hayducka and Township Manager Bryan Bidlack as we 'Swing into Spring' to honor the contributions that older adults make to South Brunswick.
To sweeten the day, Spring Hills Post-Acute Care of Princeton is sponsoring sundaes by Mr. Softee while we enjoy classical swing, jazz and upbeat contemporary music from Karickter (check out a preview here).

Registration is limited and transportation is available for all programs.

The public is invited to join the Senior Advisory Council meeting on Thursday, May 6th at 10:30 am. Please email me and I will send the link.
