Alro Steel

The Glick family became well established in the scrap metals business and in the Jackson, Michigan community. This history laid the groundwork for brothers Al and Robert Glick to form Alro Steel in 1948. The company founded by their father Louis Glick was Glick Iron & Metal. Louis Glick moved to Jackson, Michigan, to start a scrap iron business in 1916. He arrived in Jackson with a sledgehammer, chisel, $800 in his pocket and a mind for business. Through Louis' strong leadership and business skills the business became one of the premier scrap companies in Michigan.
Today, a highway that runs through the heart of Jackson bears the name of Louis Glick, a tribute to his leadership in business as well as his support of the community, the people, and local sports programs.

Welcome to Alro.com. Your grocery store for metals! Alro is a distributor of metals, industrial supplies, and plastics. Beginning in 1948, Alro Steel was incorporated in a small garage in Jackson, Michigan. The name "Al-Ro" was derived from the first two letters from brothers Al & Robert Glick. Al began the company during a steel shortage in the 1940's which was due to the military demands of World War II. Al found a niche matching up companies with steel needs to companies with excess steel. Today, Alro has grown to over 70 locations in 12 states.
Alro processes and distributes metals, plastics and industrial supplies with next day delivery to over 25,000 customers in North America. To learn more, click on the product pages for Metals, Industrial Supplies, or Plastics.

Amazon Air has completed its 223,000 sf air cargo facility at Lakeland Linder International Airport and in July welcomed its first Amazon Air aircraft, which traveled non-stop from Sacramento, CA. The regional air hub is Amazon's largest in the Southeast and includes two additional support buildings that are each approximately 30,000 sf. The e-commerce giant has already hired between 300-400 workers and will eventually hire up to 800. By mid-to-late August, there will be six daily Amazon Air aircraft flying in and out of the airport. Lakeland Linder International Airport invested over $45 million to upgrade their Instrument Landing System, add five fuel tanks and made significant runway improvements to ready themselves for this project. Amazon's capital investment is approximately $130 million for the construction of their facilities.
