Message From the Principal and School Health Office
Due to COVID 19, the CDC has placed strict rules on sending students home for illness. If a student has a temperature of 100 or higher, vomits, has a headache, has lost sense of taste / smell, has diarrhea, or respiratory issues, we are required to send home the student. In turn, the parent is then responsible to see their family physician to be cleared to return to school. This would require a COVID test.
Please understand the nurse’s assessment does not indicate a COVID diagnosis. The district must however follow the NYS guidance and CDC requirements, and require that a COVID test be completed as a result of this screening. Please follow-up with your child’s primary care physician, or schedule a test through a local testing site.  All visits must be pre-arranged by contacting the provider first by telephone. Do not report directly to a health care provider. An appointment must be made. The health care provider will provide direction on when and how to report.
Prior to returning to school, the district must receive a negative COVID test report or notice of a positive test with the mandated quarantine period completed. The note may be faxed directly to the school nurse or delivered to the school nurse immediately upon arrival to school. If a student arrives without the required health care clearance, the student will not be permitted to attend class and you will be contacted to pick your child up.
Please understand the goal of this process is to ensure the health and well-being of all members of our school-community. We are here to answer any questions you may have or provide information on additional community resources if needed.

Kindergartner News
Chicka Chicka, Boom Boom, look who's in our room! Mrs. Ciotoli's class has been working on learning all about the tools we use in school. They used scissors and glue to create their name trees.

First Grade News
First grade is the place to be! The first graders have been reviewing how to print the letters of the alphabet in upper and lowercase form, reviewing sounds and reading three letter words. Additionally, the students have been practicing the kindergarten sight words and have been learning new words. They learned about fables over the past few weeks and discussed characters and settings. In math, the students practiced number recognition 0-20, printing numbers 0-20 and learned how to read graphs. First graders have been wearing masks and practicing social distancing with great success!

Second Grade News
During the month of September, the 2nd graders at Barry Primary School and those 2nd graders doing at-home learning, have been busy practicing many new routines and getting to know one another. Whether we are learning in person or remotely, we have talked about the importance of keeping each other safe by washing our hands often, wearing masks, and following our teachers’ directions the first time. The students have experienced how to complete assignments by choosing the “View Assignment” link, doing the assignment, and then pressing the “Mark as Done” link on their Google Classroom pages. 2nd Grade students are also enjoying their first CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) Listening and Learning Domain called, ‘Fairy Tales and Tall Tales’. They have listened to some magical fairy tales such as, ‘The Fisherman and His Wife’, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, and ‘Beauty and the Beast’. We will soon identify many exaggerations in stories about ‘Paul Bunyan’, ‘Pecos Bill’, ‘John Henry’, and ‘Casey Jones’. Most importantly, our classes have worked hard at developing class rules and have read many books and Scholastic News articles to promote kindness, respect, and the power of perseverance. We all hope to embrace the knowledge that if we can’t do something now, it just means we can’t do it YET! Thank you for all the support our students are receiving at home. We couldn’t do it without your help!
