City of Tukwila and community work together to take care of each other

City   staff has been working closely with the Tukwila Food Pantry  over the last month There is an overwhelming need in our community  right now , and thanks to volunteers and donors,  th e   P antry is  here to support  our  neighbors and community at a time of immense crisis.  They continue to see record  numbers   of households served  week after week  and more  help is  needed to keep up with demand .    On April 13, t wo  Washington National Guard  members were sent to the pantry  to assist with packaging and distributing food and supplies.  They have assisted staff and volunteers with packing and distributing thousands of pounds of food.

Because of this record demand, the pantry  is  continu al ly  in need  of some critical items.  Thankfully, community groups and local businesses have been stepping up to help.  The Vietnamese Martyr's  Paris h  recently  came through with a huge donation of body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, bars of soap, baby wipes, shampoo and diapers .   Local business Diecutstickers.com also donated a large supply of diapers and wipes.  The Pantry couldn't operate without  generous support  like this   from  the Tukwila community.   Are you interested in  volunteering  or donating?  Learn more about the Pantry and how to support  thei r work at www.tukwilapantry.org .

Local stores and community members have also helped out by donating needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to our Police Department. Lowe's and Home Depot have donated gloves and disinfectant,  while Good Samaritans have bought gloves and other supplies over the past month. On April 2, Facebook donated 4,000 N95 masks to the King County Sheriff's Office for distribution to King County law enforcement agencies. Along with other South King County agencies, the Tukwila Police Department received a portion of those donated masks. N95 masks have become essential pieces of protective equipment for officers when responding to calls involving individuals who may have been exposed and or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Thank you to everyone that has donated protective equipment, hand sanitizer and food to the department to keep our officers safe and the department up and running.

Have you responded to the 2020 Census?

The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and our community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.

The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.
