Co-Presidents' Message
It's hard to believe we've already crossed the into our second month of school. Our parent class liaisons have been working hard with class officers and leadership to get ready for Homecoming. Next Sunday, September 30, is Homecoming Hallway Decorating. It's a great way for students to get engaged with their friends and classmates on campus while competing against the other classes. We hope you'll encourage your students to drop by for an hour or stay all day. Specific class details are listed in the class sections below.

Please join us for our first General Membership Meeting this Friday. The primary purpose of the meeting is to share and vote on our 2018-19 APC Operating Budget. We are happy to answer any budget questions you may have regarding our goals for the year.

Our 2nd Dons Dialogue of the school year will directly follow our brief APC General Membership Meeting. We had a packed house last month so we hope you'll all join us again. The agenda is always full of great information. Aida Glimme, our Associate Superintendent, will be presenting the new district-wide homework policy and she is eager to get parent feedback. This is your opportunity to share your opinions and ask questions. You'll also have a chance to hear all about the new Acalanes Wellness Center which is off and running and is quickly becoming an invaluable resource for our students.

We look forward to seeing many of you at 8:30am in the Collaboration Center on Friday!

CSF The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) membership application period is open now. The deadline is September 30. CSF is an honor society and membership is based on semester grades. Students need to apply and pay dues each semester. Students who are members at least 4 semesters from 10th-12th grades are recognized at graduation. Refer to the application for eligibility and membership requirements.

Go to the Web Store to pay $5 dues and download an application.  The dues go toward the purchase of the awards. Application forms can be

Parent Education
The District is reviewing its homework policy. To see presentation slides on this topic from the last AUHSD board meeting, click here.

Have you talked to your kids about... vaping ...Juuling...e-Cigarettes? Confused? Here is an article that breaks it down for adults.

Thank you to all who came to see the documentary, "Suicide: The Ripple Effect" this past Thursday night. We know it is a difficult subject, but important to talk about. Nearly 45,000 Americans die from suicide each year and that number is rising. What can we do? Talk about it.
Acalanes Wellness Center
With a month under our belts, we've been surprised and gratified by how successful the outreach efforts are working in the Wellness Center. Students are visiting during the downtime in their days (brunch and lunch) to see what the center has to offer. The conversations we're having around the difference between stress, which can be positive, and anxiety which is not, shows us how well educated students are on mental health issues. Like many of us, they know what's best for themselves and are working to establish good habits. We're also impressed by how Dons watch out for each other as we see peers urging friends who are struggling to come get help-- they are never sorry they did. If you are concerned about your student and would like a support counselor to touch base, reach out to the Wellness Center and we can help you understand the referral process. We will help students make a mindfulness toolkit at the Wellness Fair for students on September 28. Encourage your student to join us!
