The
Wave
January 31, 2020
Thank you to everybody that attended the state of the school meeting last night. It was great to see you all and talk more about TRCS, as well as to reflect on the first half of the year while looking forward to the second half.  We talked about important calendar dates coming up, ODS/4-5 week, and curriculum. We have such a wonderful, supportive community! Thank you.

The board also talked about the creation of the five-year strategic plan. They would like you to fill out the linked survey so they can gain insight into the parent’s voice. Please take the time to fill out the survey. Your feedback will go a long way in helping shape the school in the coming years.  Take the survey now!

Compassion thought of the week: One of our 6th-grade students spoke about how an act of compassion affects them. They said, “I remember when someone in my math class would always get me a practice sheet whenever we had them. I would sometimes pick a  seat and go check out a computer, but when I came back, I found our class’ warm-up sheet on my desk.” What a great example of an act of compassion. All acts of compassion, whether small or large, leave a lasting impact.

I hope you have a great weekend and we will see everybody on Monday.

Here's your January BottleDrop update. We are making steady progress but need your help! We are still shy of the $1,000 mark. Let's see if we can achieve that milestone by the end of February! Our goal might have been lofty, but if each family donates 4 bags this school year, we will be close! Have you donated four bags yet?

A few things to remember: fill your bags completely! We lose $0.40 cents on each bag for processing, so fill them up! Don't smash or crush your cans, the reader needs to be able to scan the bar code! Ask your neighbors, co-workers, etc. to collect for you! Need more bags? We just ordered 80 more bags!
Beginning today, we have a new online payment processing system, Online School Payments. This is an easy, streamlined way for parents to make any payment to the school without having to worry about cash or writing a check. Please check out our online "store" here .
We are offering a pizza lunch through this new system. Orders will be accepted online only through February 12th at 8:00 am. Lunch will be served to students on Thursday, February 13th. Order now!
On Thursday, February 13th, our students will celebrate Valentine's Day. The 4th and 5th graders are welcome and encouraged to bring Valentine's cards for ALL students in both grade levels. You may choose to attach candy (optional). There is also a Valentine's box challenge. Read about the contest here . A list of all 4th & 5th graders will be emailed to parents. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be watching a movie that afternoon with fun Valentine's snacks.
We need more counselors! Please help us spread the word!!! This year we will be heading to Camp Tapawingo, outside of Salem, March 9th - 13th, 2020. If you know any high school juniors, seniors, or possibly sophomores who would be a great candidate please have them fill out an application. We have extended the deadline to 2/3/20. The application can be found on our website and by clicking here . This is a great opportunity for high school students to gain experience for job and college applications!
West Linn and Wilsonville High Schools have important info for parents of incoming freshmen for the 2020-21 school year.  West Linn HS  has an info night for parents on March 9th at 6:00 pm. We will also be contacting parents about a visit to WLHS scheduled for March 5th during the school day.  Wilsonville HS  has an info night for parents on March 11th at 5:30 in Spanish and 7:00 in English. Any 8th graders interested in attending Wilsonville should contact the high school office directly to arrange a visit/tour.
ODS and 4/5 week: While it may seem like these two events are purely entertainment for students, they are in fact both carefully crafted weeks of exploration and learning at all grade levels. Our staff works hard to plan both of these weeks for students and we appreciate full attendance and participation from everyone!

State Testing: Testing will begin on April 20th. Read more about testing and opt out option here.
