Rock Fest!

Yeah, it's RockFest time again!! Six years ago the City of Austin declared August 8th as Nature's Treasures day. In celebration of this honor we created RockFest, a different way for Austinites to rock out for the day. This event is really all about just having fun at the rock shop. We've got free indoor and outdoor games and prizes for the kids, outdoor sluicing for fossils and gemstones, face painting, geode cracking, pet rock creation tables and a dinosaur walking around for amazing photo ops. The Austin Gem and Mineral Society will be here to share their knowledge, answer questions and spin their Wheel of Fortune for prizes. No need to worry about lunch, we will have Mission Dogs food truck on site so you can just relax and enjoy the day. We will be announcing the winners of our City Wide Rock Hunt around 1:00 so be sure to watch for our clues on Facebook Wednesday thru Friday so you will know where to find the hidden stones and how to enter to win an Amethyst Cathedral, one of three prizes to be awarded.

Wow, we really cleaned house last month during our Summer Solstice Clearance Sale event. Everyone had a great time digging through all the flats of discounted items on our tables set up throughout the store. A special thanks to all for your patience and understanding with our skeleton crew during our Annual Offsite Company Meeting last week. This yearly meeting allows us to all gather and discuss the ebb and flow of the company, find out what's working and what's not working so great and allows us to hear what you, our customers, are needing and asking for. Lots of great ideas were discussed so watch for all the new changes coming soon. I attend the Las Vegas Summer 2019 Market, a huge annual Gift and Home Décor show. Not only did this help get me prepared for our Denver Gem & Mineral buying trip next month, it also gave me the opportunity to add new vendors and exquisite products for you to choose from.

I had the perfect opportunity to test out the new Rock & Gem App I mentioned in our newsletter last month (myrockhub.com). After driving through the Washington countryside exploring wineries, we headed to Glacier National Park in Montana. Finding time

to spare before calling it a day, I decided to test the app and see if any rock shops were in the area and got to explore two rock shops, a wonderful addition to any trip.

Even though this month is all about "back to school" prep, remember to take a break and time for yourself by stopping in to see us on Saturday, August 17th and check out all the local jewelry artists gathered in our Auditorium for our 3rd Annual Nature's Treasures Jewelry Bazaar. Birthstone

Peridot is the gem name given to Forsterite, the magnesium-rich endmember of the mineral Olivine. Its unique green hue makes it readily distinguishable from other green gemstones. The color is so vibrant that ancient Egyptians used to believe that you could see the stone at night because of its radiance. Known as the "stone of the sun," Peridot is said to dispel enchantments and evil spirits. According to Melody, this stone "emits a warm and friendly energy...and delight in the nature of one's life." It's no surprise that this gemstone is associated with the sign of Leo, one of the most outgoing and powerful signs of the zodiac.

Although the name and how to say it is hotly debated, geologists have a pretty firm understanding of the origin of these beautiful gems. Read more about it HERE.

Diane was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. She is a modern day Renaissance woman with formal training in dance, martial arts, Reiki, and gemstone identification. In addition to practicing palmistry, numeralogy and astrology, you may see Diane at the store offering Aura and Chakra Reports or restocking our fossil and kid sections. She loves kids, collecting tea sets, fossils & shells, and dancing the night away!
