Town Administrator's E-Brief

From Town Administrator, Eric DeMoura           Town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

Summer 2019
Dear Mount Pleasant residents and business owners,

Summer is here, but the employees of the Town of Mount Pleasant are hard at work ensuring that services run smoothly during these hot days. Our 2018 Annual Report is out, and I would like to share with you the good news and good work accomplished within our community. Good things are happening in our Town thanks to the support of our elected officials and the efforts of our volunteer and government staff.

I'd like to specifically recognize and thank the nearly 600 Town employees for their excellent performance as demonstrated in our recent Annual Report. Town employees are committed to public service and they are guided by our mission to deliver superior performance to our citizens.

Commitment to the mission resulted in the Town receiving the prestigious 2018 All-America City designation from the National Civic League - the highest level award a municipality can receive. While managing increasing demands from a growing community, the Town maintained its top-level financial position and reduced crime. Town staff successfully served over 77,000 recreation participants, responded to 5,600 emergency medical calls, repaired nearly 5,000 linear feet of stormwater pipe, and installed almost 7,000 feet of new sidewalk, just to name a few accomplishments. And with hard work and grit, they supported the community through severe weather and the closure of I-526.

Throughout every department, Town employees pursue with vigor and professionalism our vision to be South Carolina's leader in municipal government. I extend my appreciation to each of them on a job well done. Public Service Matters!

There are several upcoming meetings and events scheduled for August, so I invite you to sign up to our Notify Me module and stay updated on the latest Town news, projects, and events. Best Regards,

Street Sign Replacement Program
To meet Federal Highway Administration requirements, the Mount Pleasant Transportation and Public Services departments have partnered in a joint street sign replacement program. The capital improvement project will replace about 7,500 signs over the next five years. The Street Sign Replacement Program will include all street signs within the Town, with the exclusion of private roads and sideways. Existing signs will be removed if they are considered redundant or do not meet standards. Additional signs may be added where deemed applicable.

Report Illicit Discharges

Illicit discharges occur when people intentionally and illegally dump pollutants into our stormdrains, stormwater ponds and waterways. Some of the most commonly dumped pollutants are motor oil, paint, gasoline, and yard debris. These pollutants pose serious threats to water quality. If you see any illicit discharges, or other water quality concerns let us know by submitting HERE.
