School Supply Drive Begins in August at North Brookfield Savings Bank
Backpacks, lunchboxes and supplies will be collected at all branches
for local school children in need.
North Brookfield Savings Bank Assistant Vice President/Branch Manager & Consumer Loan Manager Cindy Fountain, Assistant Vice President/Marketing Manager Caitlin O'Connor, Supervisor Jessica Shimansky and Senior Vice President/Human Resources Director Andrea Healy proudly display some of the school supplies donated in 2018 by generous community members, customers and NBSB employees through the
North Brookfield branch.
It's hard to believe that it's already time to start preparing for back to school. Nevertheless, for North Brookfield Savings Bank that is exactly what they are planning to do, as they announce the August 1st start of their popular
Back to School Supply Drive. With the help of the community, the Bank is committed to helping local students to start the school year off feeling confident, excited and prepared to learn.
North Brookfield Savings Bank will be collecting school supplies and monetary donations at branch locations in North Brookfield, East Brookfield, West Brookfield, Ware, Belchertown, Palmer and Three Rivers. All donations collected will be delivered to local public schools to be distributed to school children who do not have the needed supplies to start their year.
"It is North Brookfield Savings Bank's pleasure to once again host the Back to School Supply Drive and work with our local neighbors and businesses to support the youth of our communities," said Senior Vice President/Human Resources Director Andrea Healy. "Returning to school can be a very exciting time for children and families but it can also be overwhelming. By working together to ensure the children in our communities have all of the needed supplies to start their school year off with confidence, we are helping them to have a successful school year. We are extremely appreciative of the generosity shown in past years and hope another successful fundraiser this year!"
North Brookfield Savings Bank is committed to excellence and the support of their local communities. The Back to School Supply Drive fundraiser, which aids in the success of students, is one of the many ways the Bank has displayed their dedication. The Bank kicked off the fundraiser by purchasing $500 in supplies which were distributed to each branch. In an effort to promote the fundraiser and encourage those visiting the branch to donate, Bank employees are having fun setting up their "Back to School" themed display tables with brightly patterned backpacks, lunchboxes, notebooks, pencil cases, and various other fun supplies they were provided with.
"We hope everyone will stop by to see the Back to School Supply Drive display in our branches and make a contribution," said Assistant Vice President/Marketing Manager Caitlin O'Connor. "We frequently have children visit our branches who are excited to see the colorful school supplies set-up and it often becomes a perfect learning opportunity for parents doing their banking to discuss the topics of generosity and gratitude with them."
Some suggested school supply donation items that can be dropped at any North Brookfield Savings Bank branch location are:
New Backpacks, Lunchboxes, Spiral Notebooks, Pocket Folders, 12" Standard Rulers, #2 Pencils, Pencil Sharpeners, Pencil Case, Colored Pencils, Washable Markers, Erasers, Glue Sticks, Scissors, Tissues

PAN-MASS CHALLENGE - AUGUST 3 & 4
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is the nation's original fundraising bike-a-thon and today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. The PMC is a model of fundraising efficiency. Since 2007, the PMC has donated 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. The PMC is so well-known in cycling and fundraising circles that each year people travel from around the world to participate.
Riders and volunteers often describe Sturbridge as a reunion. The beginning of the original route, it is the place where riders and volunteers congregate, register for the event, share a meal together and participate in the opening ceremonies. On Saturday morning, volunteers prepare a healthy breakfast for the riders and manage the challenge of getting several thousand riders out of the hotel parking lot by 5:30 am!
Cheer on the riders at the Sturbridge start line or visit the PMC website to donate!

Cooking with Rico and Eric:
Cuban Cuisine
Thursday, Aug 22, 2019, 6:30pm
Cuba's food culture is the direct result of several factors intermixing: the history of the different people who settled there, its island location, and its tropical climate. Cuban cuisine is a blend of Spanish, African, and other Caribbean cuisines. Some Cuban recipes share spices and techniques with Spanish and African cooking, with some Caribbean influence in spice and flavor. A small but noteworthy Chinese influence is rice. There is also some Italian influence. During colonial times, Cuba was an important port for trade and many Spaniards who lived there brought their culinary traditions with them. While the cubano sandwich has made it big stateside, there are a whole slew of other delicious Cuban dishes like torticas, ropa vieja, and comida criolla-that deserve your attention (and your appetite).
Join us and experience how Chef Rico and Chef Eric have been influenced by Cuban cuisine and enjoy some of their favorite recipes and hopefully, bring an idea or two home. This event is $55 per person with wine pairings, or $42 without. Tax, and gratuity are not included. Make your reservations now by calling Avellino at 508-347-2321.

We Welcome Interesting Goodies for our Welcome Baskets!
The Chamber has teamed up with the Center of Hope to create gift baskets to welcome new members to the Chamber of Central Mass South. The Chamber presents our new members with gift baskets that will not only have a monetary value but also to give the recipient an opportunity to learn more about other Chamber members and their services. These baskets make a terrific first impression and are a great way to introduce your business to new prospects. Can you help us fill these baskets with interesting goodies?
We are always seeking interesting, practical items to include in our welcome baskets. We welcome your contributions of items like modest gift certificates, discount coupons, items with your company's logo like piggy banks, thumb drives and coffee mugs, free trial items, small items your company manufactures or whatever else might promote your company and be a value to our new members. We are looking to assemble about a dozen baskets at a time so that time sensitive material will not be out of date when received. If you would like to donate items for this program, please drop them off at the Chamber office or give us a call to arrange pick up your donated items. Contact Alix at 508-347-2761 or e-mail alexandra_mcnitt@cmschamber.org if you have any questions or to arrange a pickup. Thank you for your contributions!
