Share the Plate: The Dog Alliance

In August, 50% of cash and all designated money will be donated to this
Cedar Park, Texas-based nonprofit that provides service dogs for veterans who are challenged by the visible and invisible wounds of war. The "Hounds for Heroes" program trains these dogs to assist individuals with post-traumatic stress and mobility issues and provides them to veterans at no charge. The nonprofit also provides therapy dogs to reduce stress in the workplace, the airport, the courts, and schools. Other programs bring therapy dogs into nursing homes and hospitals and encourage reluctant readers through a reading dog program. Learn more at thedogalliance.org.

2019 Austin PRIDE Parade - August 10th

Show your Live Oak Boogie Wonderland Pride at the Austin Pride Parade.
LOUU and the Central Texas UU Congregations will march together. Wear a UU shirt and spice it up with BOOGIE Wonderland or rainbow accessories! The Parade kicks off at 8pm. We are number 131 out of 151. Meet us on San Jacinto Blvd. between 11th and 14th St at 7:45pm. Please let Tanna Thomas or Karen Santhanam know if you have any questions!

Save the Date: August 23rd
Friday, Aug 23, 7 pm, Rev. Joanna will be hosting "Movie with a Message" in the sanctuary. The movie, 'Crazy from the Heart" starring Ruben Blades and Christine Lahti is on the face of it, a romance. But underneath, it explores issues of bigotry, institutional racism, classism, and sexism. Age appropriate: the movie was originally made for cable tv (Turner) so it's not explicit, but experiences are referenced in conversation, e.g. "we were making love." Racist epithets are used. A discussion will follow the movie.

Save the Date!

Say It Isn't So!
The Church Ladies Lunch Group may have had their very last luncheon on July 8th - unless someone steps up to be the new coordinator. Margaret gave notice last month that she is unable to continue serving, due to her mother's health issues. So if one or more of you wants to lead this fun group, please send an email to ChurchLadiesLunch@LiveOakUU.org . Ironically, we had our best attendance in years at our last luncheon, and a good time was had by all. If a couple of you want to serve as co-leaders, the coordinating tasks could easily be shared. Please let us hear from you soon if you can keep this great tradition going for the ladies of Live Oak.

Fall Campout Nov. 8-10
Looking for a fun way to connect more deeply with other Live Oak members and friends?  Camping together is one way many of us enjoy fulfilling the Enrich Connections and Embrace Joy parts of our church Mission Statement. Read more

Faith Development
Here's what you need to know this week!

Each Sunday during the summer the adults are invited to attend our weekly discussions on the worship topic called 'Musings on the Message.'

This Sunday we will play games together. If you have a favorite one to share, please send it to class with your child or youth. The group will meet in Room 205 for the summer, and children 5th grade and under should be signed out by a family member by noon. Older youth (middle school and up) are encouraged to join in the games this week.
With school just around the corner, it is time to consider how you will contribute your time and talent in the faith development of our children and youth. Let's grow our base of adults sharing the journey with our children and youth. Many hands make light work and allow for a richer experience for all involved.

Finally, our fall program doesn't begin until September 9, but with school beginning nearly a month prior, we may need additional help in the classroom during August. Please consider signing up to assist either on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex or by visiting here.
