Worship this Week
Not another new thing?!
Sunday Online Worship - June 27, 2021
This week we reflect on God’s promise in Isaiah 43:19 “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” Paired with these words to an exiled people we will hear verses from chapters one and two of Nehemiah which describe how this promise played out in the decades after the exiled Jews returned to their homeland. If you aren’t familiar with the book of Nehemiah, you might want to read it before you come to worship.

After this Pandemic year of successive change in the world and in the church, we can’t help but wonder what new things are wanting to spring forth in our congregation? Does the promise of another new thing bring trepidation or excitement? Can we trust that in the surprises and changes of life, God is leading us?

The Worship video is also available from our website.

Justice and Service Updates:
We are searching for:

  1. A location for the Extreme Weather Shelter site. A dedicated group is searching for a location for this essential service on the Peninsula
  2. A location for the Peninsula UC Community Dinners. Once we have received the Government approval to begin hosting dinners we need a place where we can serve these nutritious and delicious meals to those in the Community. Donna Roy is reaching out to the community for a new home for the dinners.

Priority Population Task Force:
The mandate of this WR City/Surrey Task Force is to identify short, medium and long term actions to ensure that the needs of at-risk and vulnerable populations are being addressed on the Peninsula. The Task Force had its first meeting June 17 and will meet biweekly until November.
Kathy Booth and alternate Cheryl Lightowlers will attend this meeting.

We need your prayers and welcome your questions for all this Missional and Ecumenical” work of the church. Kathy Booth Justice and Service Convenor- 604-535-0723

News from Affirming Ministry
The battle for equality for all is sadly far from over, and its greatest victims are often children, as in this case with a Kentucky foster agency threatening to punish children if it can’t discriminate against gay couples. Read the article here.

IMPORTANT Zoom CONVERSATION
Wednesday, June 30, 6:30pm

COVID vaccinations – to get one or not is a subject that can trigger emotional disagreements.
We’re bringing folks who are both in support of and against covid vaccines together for some deep listening and compassionate conversations. The goal is to build empathy and to help folks learn how to listen to one another around this potentially divisive topic.

YES, we can!

Join us for a zoom meeting with Certified Compassionate Listening Facilitators and others who will help us move beyond fear, assumptions and judgements to deeper understanding and compassion.

Please contact Kathy Booth @ [email protected] or phone (604)535-0723 if you are interested in attending this important interactive zoom meeting or have any questions.
