 IN-PERSON WORSHIP
SUNDAYS AT 7:45 AM & 10:15 AM

ONLINE WORSHIP
GOOD NEWS and GREAT JOY!

In case you have been thinking ahead and are wondering about Operation Christmas Child and the shoebox drive, the decision has been made to do things a bit differently this year. It is 2020 after all and just about everything has been different and we are not back to "normal" yet. Samaritan's Purse is definitely proceeding with the collection of shoeboxes and in this strange time they may be more welcomed than ever by the children who will receive them.

Instead of all the necessary hands on and in person contact, we are strongly encouraging our parish family to create their shoeboxes online this year. The cost per shoebox is $30 with the option to add shipping fee as usual. You and your children will still be able to build a shoebox for a boy or girl and choose the age group. Then you select the gifts from the choices given. Please build your shoeboxes by Nov. 15, 2020 using this link to create your shoeboxes: CLICK HEREThis is a St. Michael's Orlando Goal Page, provided by Samaritan's Purse, to track the boxes built by our parish family. If you have any questions you may contact us at peggyroger @cfl.rr.com

Greetings Fellow Sojourners!

This week I got a surprise in the mail. In a large white envelope I received a thank you card from Travis, the Parent Engagement Liaison at Lake Silver and 10 or so drawings. Each of the drawings read "Dear Saint Michael's, Thank you very much for the computer cover. I love it! Your friend, ______" or something similar.

Needless to say, I showed them to everyone right away. I'd like you to see them all too. I've created a gallery on our Facebook page where you can look at them. Just CLICK HERE

Never doubt that your listening to the urge to give makes a difference in our community. It brings smiles, provides safety, fills bellies and most of all lets people know that they are loved.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do!

God Bless, Stay Safe and Stay Healthy!
Mike Robertson

ARE YOU CALLED TO THIS OFFICE?

One of the important and rewarding areas of lay service in the Body of Christ at St. Michael's is the administration and spiritual oversight of the church, it's called vestry.

The dedicated servant leaders of the vestry partner with the rector to guide St. Michael's to God's vision and purpose. While the vestry is often seen simply as the "governing board" of the parish, its decisions go beyond mere policy, affecting not just the structure and finances of the church, but also the spiritual lives of its people. As such, members of the vestry take on a sacred duty to pray, listen to God, one another, the members of the parish, and the deep hunger of the world, and then discern how God is calling St. Michael's to use our giftedness to bring God's kingdom closer to earth.

Based on our Baptismal Covenant and Catechism below are some basic guidelines to consider that will help with discernment.

WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?   Have you accepted Jesus Christ as the Son of God, acknowledged his as your Savior, surrendered to him as Lord of your life, and put your whole trust in his grace and love? (See BCP Page 302-303)

WORSHIP: Are you committed, as God enables you to worship with your parish family in church as often as possible? (See BCP Page 304, 856)

DEVOTIONAL LIFE: Are you developing your relationship with God through prayer, study, fellowship and worship? (BCP Page 304, 856)

TREASURES: Are you and your family committed to trusting God with your financial resources and supporting the mission and ministry of the church?

GOD'S WILL: Are you willing to serve by seeking Christ's will for his church and giving as much attention to the spiritual life of the congregation as to the financial and administrative decisions? (Acts 1:21, 1 Corinthians 1:26-31)

SUPPORT: Are you willing to support parish functions-social and spiritual-with your work and attendance?

MEETINGS: Are you committed to attend vestry meetings; to participate in the vestry retreat; and to pray daily for your parish? (John 20:24-29)

If you think God is calling you or someone else at St. Michael's to serve in this ministry, please contact the person and ask their permission and then you may submit his/her name to Eric James at [email protected] or Fr. Rick in the office or at [email protected] Vestry will serve a three-year term and be announced in January 31st 2021 at our Annual Meeting.

MONDAY NIGHT WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY: BEGINS OCTOBER 19

We are excited to announce we will be kicking off our next Bible Study on Monday, October 19th at 6:45 p.m. - in person.

Our fall study will be Dr. Caroline Leaf's "Switch On Your Brain". She combines science and Scripture to enlighten us, empower us, and for us to see how wonderfully made we are.

Here's a snippet from Dr. Leaf's study -  "You can...gain control of your thoughts and feelings, and in doing so, you can change the programming and chemistry of your brain...what you are thinking every moment of every day becomes a physical reality in your brain and body, which affects your optimal mental and physical health. The application is for all walks of life: forgive that person; get rid of that anxiety or depression; follow that dream; do that diet, be that great parent or husband or wife or friend; get that promotion; or make other changes to create quality, positive lifestyles."

CLICK HERE to get your workbook - it's on sale right now for less than $10:

Purchase your workbook prior to coming - we will not have any on hand the evening of the study. She also has a book of the same title. You are NOT required to get the book for the study - just the workbook.

Looking forward to what God has in store for us during this season!

Grace and Peace,
Karen Hartner

TAKE THEM A MEAL: EMILIE VICK

Our sweet Emilie Vick has had neck surgery most recently.
As she recovers and heals, she would very much appreciate receiving some food a few days a week this month.

Emilie has some food allergies, including eggs, dairy and gluten. She is also a vegetarian but does eat seafood. But PLEASE don't let that intimidate you. Should you prefer to order and pick up, she likes Blended Bistro on Edgewater, Dandelion Café, Ethos, Zoes Kitchen, and Vietnamese food.

Whether you cook or order out, please sign up on the Take Them A Meal website: CLICK HERE. There you can find a day that is convenient for you.

The Vick's address is located in the sign-up link. Please call Emilie (904) 504-5343 to let her know what time you will be delivering the meal.

Thank you so much for serving the Vick's during Emilie's recovery. If you have questions, please contact Patty Tew (407) 341-3218 or Suzanne Thomas (407)-579-9113.

FLOWER SPONSORSHIP AT ST. MICHAEL'S

The flowers that adorn the altar every Sunday are given to the glory of God and as an offering of worship! We invite you to join in sponsoring the flowers each week in memoriam or thanksgiving for family, friends and occasions. This is a beautiful and vital ministry as we worship God through His creation!

To sponsor flowers during this season email [email protected]. Please include your desired date/dates and the wording of your memorial/sponsorship exactly as you would like it to appear in the bulletin. Send this in by the Sunday prior to the desired date so that we can ensure that it is included in the next Sunday's bulletin.

HOLY COMMUNION AT HOME

We have "pre-consecrated" bread and wine available for those who will continue to join us in worship  through YouTube available for pick-up at the church office.

WHEN TO PICK- UP COMMUNION:
  • THURSDAY OCTOBER 15 & OCTOBER 16
  • 9AM to 5PM
  • CHURCH OFFICE
HOW TO STORE COMMUNION PRIOR TO SUNDAY
You should store the sacrament in a respectful place in your home, perhaps placing it in a vessel and then putting it in protected place. Prior to participating in the online worship service Sunday, place the sacrament on a table. Be sure to create a reverent environment perhaps lighting a candle. During the service at the appropriate time during the Great Thanksgiving, you can receive the sacrament and share it with those in your home who are participating with you. Please consume all the elements.

* Please note: Gluten free elements for those with allergies and/or intolerances are available by request. Please email [email protected] by end of day Wednesday to ensure the elements will be available for pick-up Thursday and Friday.

EYC: THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18

EYC: Sunday, OCT 18 (5:30-7:30PM)

What does EYC look like? After reading the survey responses received, we discerned that meeting on Zoom is the best way for EYC to be available for everyone. We will continue this week on Zoom.

In addition, we are exploring safe "outdoor" meetings we can do periodically for connection and recreation. We will reassess in the future when to come back together in person. We begin this year with the Alpha Youth Series!

OCTOBER 18: 20th Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 24
In our Gospel from Matthew, Jesus utters those famous words: "Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor's, and to God the things that are God's."  Another time the Pharisees, attempting to catch Jesus out with their probing questions, failed, and instead, Jesus's answer turned the attention back on to them, and their lives based on external religious actions, as opposed to truly worshipping the Living God in their hearts.
