Streets with a detour onto Washington.

Movies & Music in the Park kicks off this Friday!
The first four Fridays of August feature family-friendly movies and music for free in Parfet Park. This
Friday, August 2 we kick the series off with a lesson on
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World along with the music of
Half Pint & the Growlers, a tasty brew of Swing, Gypsy, Twang and Soul.
Each week, the band begins performing at 7 p.m. and the featured movie will start rolling at dusk, generally around 8:30 p.m. The movies are shown on a giant screen under the stars.
Bring blankets or low-slung chairs, and make yourself comfortable! If you need to sit up high in a regular height chair, however, please be courteous of those sitting on the ground, and keep to the edges of the crowd. This year we've dedicated the front area to blankets only, so please look for the signs.
Come early and bring a picnic dinner, or enjoy food and drinks from local vendors. A number of vendors will be on site to offer tasty selections such as pizza, ice cream and sodas. Then, of course, save room, because what's a movie without hot, buttery popcorn?
Dogs are welcome, just keep them on a leash. And please leave your adult beverages at home - this is an alcohol- and tobacco-free event. Regular

The Golden Police Department invite you to grab your friends and family and come out for the 19th annual National Night Out on
Tuesday, August 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Parfet Park on the corner of 10th Street and Washington Avenue.
Join us for live music, performances, raffle prizes, free food and drink, and much more!
National Night Out is an annual community event that promotes police-community partnerships in a fun and relaxing environment.

Take the National Community Survey
You may have received a postcard in the mail indicating that you were one of 2,200 randomly selected residents who had the opportunity to tell us how you feel about Golden. But if you were not randomly selected, don't worry! You have the opportunity to give us your feedback as well. The online
National Community Survey is now available for anyone to take through August 2.
The City contracted with the National Research Center (NRC) in Boulder to conduct a community survey that will provide valuable information that will be used to measure our performance and inform future decisions. Results of the online survey will be calculated separately as this will be a self-selected group.

Golden Bicycle Cruise - Mustache Ride!
English, Handlebar, Chevron, Horseshoe, Pencil, Walrus...the options are endless, just make sure you've got something over your lip for the Golden Bicycle Cruise Mustache Ride tonight, Tuesday, July 30!
Golden-based New Terrain Brewing Company will pour two local brews, while local band, Dorado, provides the music. Bob's Atomic Burgers will provide food. If you plan on purchasing food or drinks, please note that this is a cash-only event.
There are prize drawings for adults and kids during every ride. Adults earn prize tickets with the purchase of beer, and kids can earn tickets by (1) showing up (2) wearing a costume and/or (3) bringing nonperishable food donations for a local food pantry.
The family-friendly event, sponsored by the Golden Community Commons group, takes place on the last Tuesday of the month, May through September. Gather Tuesday, July 30 at 6 p.m. in the parking lot next to the library (1019 10th Street) for music, food and beer. Ride starts at 7 p.m. and ends back at the library lot where the fun continues until 9:30 p.m.

Historic Preservation Board Meeting
The Historic Preservation Board will meet Monday, August 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 911 10th St.
At the meeting, board members will consider the following items:
- The Historic Preservation Board will discuss the recent proposal regarding the Astor House purchase and renovation.
- HPB will review plans for construction of an addition to a detached garage, with a second story above, located at 1407 Ford Street
- HPB will review plans for multiple façade changes to the property located at 1100 Washington Avenue.

Golden Super Cruise
Once a month, car lovers gather along South Golden Road to watch hot rods, classic cars, and custom rides of all kinds do what they do best - cruise!
This is Colorado's biggest annual car cruise, and it happens on the first Saturday of each month, May through October.

The tuition-free Leadership Golden program provides local learning about Golden with 11 sessions that run from Sept. 7, 2019 to May 7, 2020. New City of Golden Waste and Recycling Program Notification System
The City of Golden has a new way to keep you informed about holiday and weather delays in services of the City's waste & recycling program. You can now
sign up to receive email reminders about one day delays for holiday weeks and severe weather notifications that may affect your recycling and garbage collection. This new service is free and only requires an email address, but is only for City of Golden program customers.

Experience the new Loveland Sound Garden Art Installation
Have you noticed the giant triangle and mural in the garden at 1101-1103 Washington Avenue? It's the Loveland Sound Garden, a project of Golden's new Community Art Partnership. Created by GLDN, a group of local artists, the Loveland Sound Garden is an immersive audio experience that allows visitors to activate synthesizers by moving through the space and interacting with various instruments in the garden.
Take a selfie with the mural and share with the hashtag #GoodToBeGoldenCO or #visitgoldenco. When you're finished, try the Snapchat scavenger hunt that lets visitors go on an adventure through Golden to help the ghost of a miner find his lost nugget.

Oregivers Service Event Needs Projects!
The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) has more than 1,000 incoming freshmen students ready to serve the Golden community... now they just need projects!
This is an opportunity for Goldenites to get some help with their personal, home, or business projects they haven't been able to do on their own. Raking leaves, repairing fences, painting... name the task and CSM will work to accommodate you.
Don't miss out on this opportunity! You have until Thursday, Aug. 15 to
fill out the form and give details on your project. CSM volunteers will reach out to you to verify your project. You will see CSM students working throughout the community between noon and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18 for this annual event.

Colorado Classic Race Routes
The Colorado Classic comes to Golden on Saturday, August 24 and the route they have chosen will be an exciting day of fast-paced action right downtown.
On paper, Stage 3 in Golden looks like a sprinter's delight with seven swift laps of a nine-mile circuit that starts and finishes under the iconic Golden arch downtown. But don't be fooled as the short steep climb up the historic Washington St. is enough for a mini-Queen of the Mountain on the last lap. Seven laps means the racers will come through downtown SEVEN times - that's a lot of great opportunity for spectating. New Terrain Brewery will also have a front row seat to the action, as the route will take the race right in front of the brewery.

Washington Ave Storm Sewer Replacement Road Closure
Washington Ave at Hwy 93 is closed to replace a storm sewer crossing. This work takes place in advance of the completion of the pedestrian and bike lane connections that were begun last year in conjunction with the Washington Avenue Complete Streets project. This is the one part of the project that was not touched while the rest of the work was being done on Washington Avenue to allow people to still access businesses in the area.
Work began July 22 and is anticipated to take another week to complete. Business access and a detour is in place via Iowa Street.
With all concrete and asphalt improvements complete, crews are working on finishing landscaping and final punch list items for the Washington Complete Street project. Final project acceptance and cleanup is anticipated to be complete by the end of this month.

11th Street watermain break update
Concrete replacement is scheduled for July 31 and paving on August 7. 11th Street will be closed from Washington Avenue to Arapahoe Street on August 7 to facilitate the paving operation.

- July 29 - Aug 1: sewer repair at 1501 East St. will impact a parking lane and sidewalk
- July 22 - Aug 5: at 701 12th St #131, #141, #151 dumpster storage will impact the parking stall
- Aug 12 - Aug 16: from Sunshine Parkway to High Parkway - new gas service installation will impact traffic lanes and parking lanes
- July 31 - Sept 20: at 708-710 Cheyenne St. the sidewalk will be closed for new construction on the lot
- July 26 - Aug 12: at 510 19th St a parking lane will be impacted by the placement of a dumpster
- Aug 5 - 9: One lane of 8th St. from Briarwood to Elm Cir will be impacted for utility line work
- July 30 - Aug 2: Washington Ave from 10th to 11th - a traffic lane will be impacted for conduit repair
- Aug 6 - 14: 1209 Illinois a parking lane will be occupied by a POD
- Carriage Rides - most Friday and Saturday afternoons throughout the summer from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A station will be set up on the north side of 12th St. from Washington to Miners Alley and will occupy parking lanes.
- Arapahoe St. between 13th and 14th (in front of Calvary Episcopal Church) has been extended until the beginning of August. Due to the construction activity, parking spaces will also be lost during this time.
- 17th St. between Washington and Jackson will be closed for construction staging and access for CSM's project at 1750 Jackson St has been extended through the fall.

Street Improvement Program
On Thursday August 8, crews will begin milling and paving operations. "No Parking" signs will be placed at least 24 hours in advance of the work. Crews will begin on the School of Mines Campus in advance of student move in. This schedule is weather dependent. Initial streets will include:

Concrete Replacement Program
Fasick Concrete began work last week on Washington Ave from 10th St. to 11th St. and 10th St. from Cheyenne St. to Maple St. Next week they will start on Eagle Ridge Drive from Somerset Drive to Tripp Drive. They are replacing damaged or deficient concrete as well as making ADA upgrades. Work in the area is expected to take 2 weeks.
