August Staff Picks
g
Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton (out 8/6)
"A zombie apocalypse told from the perspective of a domesticated crow? Count me in. Once I started this book, I didn't want to put it down, but I also realized it is so much more than what it initially seemed. With wit and wisdom, humor and heart, Buxton tells the tale of not what happens to humans when their world ends, but what happens to the world around them." - Elisa

Lager Queen of Minnesota by J. Ryan Stradal
"This is a tale of two sisters, a batch of undefeatable Midwestern women, and the modern evolution of American beer trends in the Midwest.  America's heartland looks a bit different from the perspectives of Edith, Helen, and Diana, each of whom struggles both to survive and to realize her dreams in a world less than willing to give a woman a chance, let alone a beer.  Lovely, powerful and an excellent read!" - Linda

Camp Tiger by Susan Choi
"Submerge yourself in this book: in the incredible art, in the mysterious story, and then allow yourself to search for meaning. I would suggest, though, that that search not be for the hard and fast, but rather for something elusive and foggy, like the departure from childhood." - Linda

A Thank You to Our Customers

We're sending a huge thank you to everyone who came in to support us during the month of July. Thank you!

Save the Date: Reading & Signing with Gabby Rivera
Thursday, September 19

We are so excited to welcome Gabby Rivera for a reading a signing celebrating the release of her book Juliet Takes a Breath! (out Sept. 17!)

Linda and Elisa say,"For us, mixed race, queer and straight, this book, this character grabbed us by our angry, feminist selves and defied us to stop reading.. This book takes our preconceived notions of culture, feminism, family, language, place and especially food, and allows us, like Juliet, to consider, reconsider, decide and remain open to changing even that because like Juliet, we keep meeting people who defy categorization...and are we really surprised about that?"

More information to come.
