Are you helping
Get Out the Vote?
If you’ve done anything (e.g.
writing postcards, letters, emails
or other) to encourage people
to vote, please Email Bonnie and
tell her what you’ve done. We’d like to let summarize and let everyone know how UUFD has shown up for the democratic process!
Needham Elementary
In our continuing partnership, we are accepting cash donations to help Needham with two special needs: providing for kids with basic needs (clothing, backpacks, personal items), and providing tokens of appreciation to teachers and staff. To donate, send checks to UUFD with “Needham”
on the memo line.
Rainbow Youth Center
Hallow-Queens! Fall Fundraiser merging Halloween and Pride into one night. October 17th 5:00 pm start,
at the baseball fields at the Fairgrounds. Live music, food, auction, all following San Juan Basin Public Health Covid-19 protocol. Supported by UUFD LGBTQ Justice Team
Winter Supply Drive
UUFD Basic Needs Team partners with Neighbors In Need Alliance and Manna in advocating for our homeless community. Camping supplies, winter clothing and toiletry supplies are needed and items can be donated October 17th 9am-12pm at Manna, 1100 Avenida del Sol.
Share the Plate
With continued heightened food insecurity in our community, we are adjusting our STP process this year. The SRJ Coordinating Team identified Manna, Durango Food Back and FLC Grub Hub as high priority organizations addressing food insecurity. If you believe a different organization should take priority over these for the remaining three recipient slots for this cycle, Email Bonnie with the name and reasons why by October 23rd.
Healing Racism
In addition to reading, discussing and learning from the book White Fragility we take actions to create racial justice. If you are interested in the possibility of a local chapter of SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice), or volunteering for Southwest Movement for Black Lives, you can complete this form: Click Here

Coffee (or Cocktails)
& Connections is now
Making Connections

We have decided to retire Coffee & Connections during this time of virtual worship and church activities but we can't wait to bring it back to life for our new members and guests when we return to the church campus.
We will meet in the parking lot of UUFD! That's right, the Board has developed a Covid-19 policy for church/campus usage and Making Connections  will be gathering in person! We look forward to a lively discussion while we enjoy the support for one another during the pandemic.
Bring your mask & chair.
Be sure to make a reservation with Shannon today!

Keep Journeying
Today we’ll recognize our newest members; recognizing the importance of making a commitment to a new faith home, especially in a time of pandemic. John Lewis told us, “The journey toward the Beloved Community is a journey of a lifetime,” and so we will journey with you.

Children's Faith Formation

Older Elementary Class - This Sunday in our anti-racism class for second to fifth graders we will tackle the tough topic of slavery. We'll find out what the children already know and add to it in a thoughful and developmentally appropriate way.

Parents are encouraged to attend the class in order to extend the lessons at home. Resource materials will be sent home to help you.

Younger Elementary Class - Our younger children in first grade and kindergarten are not ready for this topic. they will meet in a break out group to discuss Our Church, Our Beliefs. The children will learn about the Loving Family and their work to make inter-racial marriage legal in the US.

FAITH FORMATION
Halloween Trunk or Treat at UUFD!*

Join us on Saturday, October 31st as we create a safer way for our children to celebrate Halloween.
We invite adults to volunteer to park their cars in the UUFD parking lot with a decorated trunk. Plan out a way to deliver treats to your trick or treaters from six feet – a long pipe to slide the treats down? A grabber like this one?

Cars will be parked at least ten feet apart. All participants will be masked (not just the Halloween ones.) Children will trick or treat with their families, spaced at least ten feet apart, moving in one direction.
Adults – Sign up here to decorate your trunk.
Kids – Sign up here to participate.
*This event is dependent upon current recommendations, pandemic conditions and safety approval on October 30.

FACILITY USE UPDATES

New COVID-19 Facility Use Policy

Recognizing virtual meetings are safest, we are also aware of our strong desire to connect in person on the UUFD campus. UUFD small groups, therefore, are permitted to gather on the campus and must observe the following restrictions:
  • Outdoor spaces available for small group gatherings are restricted to the south end of the parking lot and the lawn behind Bowman Hall.
  • Capacity for the lawn is 12 persons and capacity for the south end of the parking lot is 33 persons.
UUFD small groups include groups that are within Board or Minister
categories according to the UUFD Governance/Ministry Model; such as Committees, Teams, and Faith Formation. As determined by staff, special consideration may be given to Social Justice activities or other
circumstances that fall outside the stated guidelines.

Event Participation Message from the
UUFD Social Responsibility and Justice Team
In the time of COVID-19 we must consider the variable of personal health and safety.
The question of attendance at large gatherings such as marches, rallies, and vigils
is a personal one. We believe each person must make their own choice about what
is appropriate for them. We do want you to be informed, so we will make you aware
of social justice events as they are scheduled.
Whatever your choice, we wish for continued health for each of you.
