SPRC Small Group Meetings

We are excited to share with you that many have signed up to meet with our new minister, The Reverend Cam Treece!

Meetings are set to meet in the Fellowship Hall each
Monday, beginning July 12th, in-person
on . . .

July 12, 19, 26, August 2, and 9.

All of the meetings through August 9 are complete with 16 members (not including the minister, Chair of Staff/Parish Relations and Kathy Worley, our refreshments coordinator.)

If you would like to attend and haven't already signed up, an insert will be in the bulletin this Sunday, July 11, or you may sign up on-line. See "Small Groups" button below:

Here are some examples of what might be discussed in the small group meetings:

1. Remembering your entire experience at Central, when did you feel the most alive, most motivated, and most excited about your involvement? What made it exciting? Who else was involved? What happened? What was your part?

2. What do you value most about Central? What activities or ingredients or ways of life are most important? What are the best features of this church?

3. Make three wishes for the future of Central.

The meetings will be held in the Central Fellowship Hall from 6:30-8:00 PM.

Reflection:
Lost in Translation

a service devoted to quieting minds, opening
hearts, soothing souls

Translation means "to convert or adapt an idea, an artwork, etc. from one form, condition, system, or context into another." Under this broad definition, we will not only look at Bible translation but the translation of symbols from the natural world into language and the effects that both forms of interpretation can have on a person.
Whatever text is being translated, the same questions persist. Is literary, spiritual, and cultural translation even possible? To what extent is translation really interpretation? Are the new meanings and nuances which are the natural by products of translation good or bad? When does a translation become disrespectful to the original?
Translation of nature involves turning non-verbal symbols into words. It is a more subjective and personal act than moving from text to text. In fact, the translation of natural symbols may be considered a conversation about oneself with the Divine. As such, it can be an important part of a person's spiritual growth.
This conversation about turning meaning into understanding will be conducted by Les Howard, Andy Crosland, and Joan McPherson.

Ways to Give to Central

We continue to be deeply grateful for continued support of the mission and ministry of Central Church. There are a few ways to continue to make offerings extremely easy.

  1. The US mail always works. We are at 233 North Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306.
  2. Contact Ann Darby to set up a recurring gift through an automatic bank draft.
  3. On the homepage on the church's website there is a "Give" link. Once you set up that app any additional gifts are as easy as one or two clicks.
