Wow, July is already over... YIKES! Can't we slow the summer down to savor the sun, blue skies and warmth of family and friends?! It always seems to go by so fast. I hope that you're getting time to smell the roses, sage, ocean, and pine!
In preparation for NAO's fall learning and convening events, I've been traveling around the state holding focus groups and connecting with nonprofit leaders about the most important issues on their minds. Here's what I heard...Many of you are grappling with staff retention issues with talented staff, concerns about funding, and a general sense of anxiety about the resiliency of your organizations going into the second half of the year and into 2020. You are optimistic about the opportunities presented by collaborations and peer-to-peer networks you are part of. Across the state, your top priorities for support and capacity building are: getting the most from your boards; human resources and back office support; and fund development. Our team is busy working to develop network trainings, workshops, webinars, and
NAO's 2019 High Desert Nonprofit Leaders Conference in September that will meet your needs this fall and into the future. We are privileged to be your go-to resource for all things nonprofit.

Five Actions Nonprofit Can Take to Enhance, Protect and Defend Their Reputation

Nonprofits want to tell their stories and support their causes. To do this successfully, nonprofits must, among many other things, take care of their reputation. Reputation is building familiarity, establishing trust and fortifying confidence within your nonprofit and within the communities you serve and from whom you receive support. Conversely, nonprofits are sometimes tasked with protecting their valuable reputations during a crisis or addressing a challenging issue or political climate affecting their cause.
However, many nonprofits are unsure about their reputation (i.e., what others are saying, or not saying, about the nonprofit) or don't have the capacity to fully manage a reputation campaign. Yet, with some small steps, enhancing, protecting and defending your nonprofit's reputation can help to raise funds, increase volunteerism, raise the profile of your mission and organization, promote your cause, and share stories to illustrate your challenges and/or successes.

Building Movement Project's Race to Lead Survey
Do you care about racial equity? Do you work at a nonprofit? BMP wants your
perspective
- make your voice heard.
In 2016, the Building Movement Project conducted a national survey on race and leadership in nonprofits. The data from that survey led to the development of the popular Race to Lead report series. This summer, the Race to Lead survey is back! By participating, you will contribute to one of the largest existing data sets on race and leadership in the nonprofit sector and will help inform the next round of Race to Lead reports. The confidential survey is open to anyone working for pay in the sector and takes about 25 minutes to fill out.

2020 Levitt AMP Grant Awards
#LevittAMP grants $25K in matching funds to produce outdoor, free concert series.
The Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation has an exciting grant opportunity for small to mid-sized towns and cities across the country. Up to 15 grantees will be awarded $25K each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP [Your City] Music Series¬-an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse line up of high caliber entertainment for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy. Online public voting determines the Top 25 finalists.
Grant applications are due by September 20, 2019.

The Next Dimension of Equity: Including People with Disabilities as Part of Nonprofit Diversity Work

Disability is a social construct defining what is "normal" and what is not.
