The Whitehall UMC is hosting Vacation Bible School with the theme, "Athens - Paul's Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth!"

Sessions are from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Monday, Aug. 5 through Friday, Aug. 9. Registration starts at 6 PM  each night.

For all ages young and old, however, children must have graduated kindergarten to be in the program without parental supervision.

District Workshop Day: Oct. 19 in Plattsburgh

The Adirondack District Leadership Team is pleased to announce that we
will be holding a second District Workshop Day, "Informed to Transform," on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Plattsburgh UMC, 127 Beekman St., Plattsburgh (12901).

We will be following the same format as the day we held in March at the Saratoga Springs UMC. We will begin with registration at 8:30 AM and a time of worship at 9 AM. There will be three 75-minute blocks of workshops, and lunch will be served. The day will conclude with worship and Holy Communion at 2:30 PM.

The cost will be $10.

As the day draws nearer, we will be posting workshop descriptions and a schedule.

Safe Sanctuaries
Safe Sanctuaries training to be held
in Sandgate, VT. on Aug. 10

The standard Safe Sanctuaries training will be held from 9:30 AM to
12:30 PM Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Sandgate UMC, 3458 Sandgate Rd., Sandgate, VT 05250 . P lease arrive by 9:15 AM to register.  
 
The training will follow the curriculum developed by the Upper New York Annual Conference Safe Sanctuaries Team, educating those involved in ministries who work with children and vulnerable adults on risks and prevention strategies related to abuse. The training will be facilitated by Arlene Schmidt and Ruth Persons.

Disciple 1 Bible Study
Disciple 1 to be offered through ZOOM

Pastor Paul Winkelman and Pastor David Pritchard, from the Oneonta District, are offering Disciple I
through ZOOM, which means anyone can join us from anywhere so long as you have a good internet connection.

The course will be offered beginning Monday, Aug. 5, and go through Monday, Dec. 2; then begin again on Jan. 6, 2020, finishing Monday, May 4, 2020. Times will be 6 PM to 7:30 PM, and meetings will be done primarily through ZOOM, with no requirement to meet in person.

Cost is TBA, as there is a cost to use ZOOM. The more people who sign up, the less the cost.

Lay Servant Classes
Please note!
 
Certified Lay Ministry Course to Be Offered by Adirondack District.
The Rev. Sally White will be the CLM Coordinator and the course begins on September 7. The deadline to register is August 7.
   
The class will meet on the first Saturday of each month, through Spring 2020. The September, October and November gatherings will be at the Ballston Spa UMC; locations will vary for the remaining months.  
 
You MUST complete the Basic Course before entering this program. Note that the course if being offered Aug. 17 and Aug. 18 (details below)
 
Certified Lay Ministry training consists of four modules totaling 78 hours. ¶268 of The Book of Discipline defines a certified lay minister as "...a certified lay servant...who is called and equipped to conduct public worship, care for the congregation, assist in program leadership, develop new and existing faith communities, preach the Word, lead small groups, or establish community outreach ministries as part of a ministry team with the supervision and support of a clergyperson. A certified lay minister is assigned by a district superintendent in accordance with ¶419.2."

First UMC of Ticonderoga Seeks Music Director

The church is seeking a musician to play for two services on Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, which includes prelude, offertory, anthem, postlude and hymns. Also, direct the vocal choir in rehearsal and at the 10:30 AM service. Ideally the musician would play our Rogers Allegiant 3 manual 46 plus voice and midi organ, or Altenburg 6' grand piano. We are open to other musical expressions and experience. During Advent and Lent there will be extra services. Occasionally there will be a need to play at funerals and weddings. Salary negotiable. First-ever Annual Zucchini Festival, 10 AM to 2 PM Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Moriah UMC, 639 Tarbell Hill Rd., Moriah (12960). Low the humble but abundant zucchhini deserves our respect and celebration. What's happening? Largest home grown zucchini, any type of food using zucchini, the zucchini painting contest, the zucchini toss, hot dogs, petting zoo and many other things.  All are welcome!  Any funds raised will be for the Building Repair Fund.
 
Bloomingdale Summer Praise Services;
The First United Methodist Church of Saranac Lake will be holding a Summer Praise Service on Sundays at 7 PM at the historic United Methodist Church in Bloomingdale, NY (1684 Route 3, Bloomingdale, NY 12913) through September 1. The theme for the 2019 Bloomingdale Summer Praise Service will be Prayer and Praise. The service is a music-filled celebration of Christ working in our lives and includes thematic scripture and a homily. The service is open to all, is led by Certified Lay Servant Michael R. Martin of the Saranac Lake church and will feature guest musicians and speakers. First UMC of Lake George Summer services in July and the first three Sundays in August, will be in the Amphitheater in Shepard Park in Lake George.  Communion will be served the first Sunday of each month.  The fourth Sunday in August we will have our church picnic in Usher's Park.  All are welcome, just bring a dish to share.  Service time is 9 AM.

Plattsburgh United Methodist Men's Group Welcomes You to Breakfast On the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The group meets at Perkins Restaurant on Cornelia Street (right off exit 38 of I-87) for breakfast, prayer, conversation, and community building.
