A Message from Child Care Aware of NH
|
|
Hello Providers,
August is here and we are so excited. Child Care Aware of NH powered by Southern New Hampshire Services is hard at work helping families find child care and gearing up for the next training season.
|
|
Child Care Resource and Referral Outreach Specialist
s have spent the month of July providing referrals to families, visiting District Offices, working with Workplace Success and doing community outreach. Currently, our Child Care Resource and Referral Outreach Specialists are
calling providers who have expired licenses in our database.
Having a current licence on file helps us capture the most accurate information and give reliable referrals to families. They are also
updating the community resources in our database,
so they can share additional information with families.
Training and TA Specialists are doing lots of behind the scene work.
In the fall, we provide two conferences and multiple special events, in addition to the trainings in the Annual Training Calendar. All of these events are being planned and organized now; so that, CCAoNH offers a full and exciting fall line-up to providers.
Be on the lookout in mid August for our Annual Training Calendar. Also coming this fall are the event flyers, and conference brochures for each event.
In addition to our training season, Training and TA Specialists are getting ready for the
2019-2020 Leadership Collaboratives, Progressive Training and TA Programs and Early Childhood Cohorts for Emergency Planning and Strengthening Families. We are excited about the services that we will be offering and can't wait to share them all with you. Be on the lookout mid August for the new Leadership Collaborative flyer and applications to participate in a Progressive or Cohort. Look below for more information on what each program offers.
This year, CCAoNH is collaborating with the University of New Hampshire in partnership with the Bureau of Child Development and Head Start Collaboration on a new project, the
“Best Practices in Action” Initiative
through funds provided by the
Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five Initiative (PDG B5)
. This grant, from the Office of Child Care, Administration for Children and Families, US Department of Health and Human Services aims to understand the State’s early childhood system and to create a plan to improve the outcomes for children, families, schools and communities throughout New Hampshire. Look for a special announcement soon on the
“Best Practices in Action” Initiative
and what it will bring to the State to support the PDG B5's mission.
CCAoNH is expanding our services for the Best Practices in Action Initiative and we have two NEW open positions
: a
Kindergarten Play-Based Instructional Coach and an Environment Rating Scale Anchor. In addition, we also have two Training and TA Specialist positions open. If you are interested in joining a dynamic team and making an impact on the early childhood world visit

Child Care Aware of NH
Progressive Training and TA Program
& Early Childhood Cohorts
|
|
Child Care Aware of New Hampshire offers technical assistance as part of our services to providers.
Technical assistance is coaching and mentoring to help directors, providers and the field grow in specific state initiatives. Providers can access these services free of charge in a multitude of ways. Providers can call our offices, email us, speak to us in person, invite us for an on-site visit and/or participate in either an upcoming Progressive Training and TA Program or the New Early Childhood Cohorts.

The Progressive Training and TA Program is an option that offers programs individualized technical assistance. Programs commit to work with CCAoNH on a long term basis to improve quality and practices around one of five State Initiatives:
- Progressive Professional Development of Staff-Helps to get staff into the NH Professional Registry and to get credentialed through the NH Professional Development System.
- Strengthening Families, Strengthening Care-Helps programs evaluate their current practices around family engagement and make individual program goals to increase their work with the families they serve.
- Program Emergency Preparedness and Response-Helps programs further develop their Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operation Plans, as well as practice the Emergency Operations drill to help them be more equipped for an emergency.
- NH Early Learning Standards-Helps programs incorporate the NH Early Learning Standards into the daily activities, planning and communication with families.
- Infant & Toddler Team Initiative-Helps a program's infant and toddler providers to get their Infant/Toddler Endorsement as well as works to incorporate the NH Early Learning Standards into their program.

CCAoNH's Early Childhood Cohorts uses an approach that brings multiple programs together that want to work on the same specific State initiative. Participants have the opportunity to collaborate with peers as they obtain resources and support through professional development and technical assistance in a cooperative group setting. In 2019-2020, CCAoNH is offering three different Cohorts:
- Exploring Strengthening Families in a Child Care Cohort-Helps programs to assess their current family engagement practices, identify resources that are available to both the program and families, as well as create goals to sustain change in their practice to ensure the support of our New Hampshire families.
- Emergency Operations Planning in a Child Care Cohort-Helps programs enhance their existing Emergency Operations Plan to be comprehensive, sustainable and well-practiced to satisfy Child Care Licensing Rules
- Family Child Care Emergency Planning Cohort-Helps programs operated from the home to enhance their existing Emergency Operations Plans to be comprehensive, sustainable and well-practiced to satisfy Child Care Licensing Rules.

What's New On The Website

We added a
Guide to Family Engagement under Provider Resources. This guide's intent was to create a starting point for centers wishing to adopt the Strengthening Families Framework.

Putting Training into Action
|
|
The staff at
Saint Leo Catholic Children's Center
worked to create "to go kits" that allowed them to ensure they had items necessary for evacuation, but also that worked for them if they needed to leave in a hurry. They found these wheeled backpacks that are quick and easy to grab and are packed with their emergency materials and information.
|
|
Discovery Child Enrichment Center
wanted to ensure that staff understood and had access to important emergency information at all times. They created these response action guides in all of their classrooms which provide specific steps to follow during emergencies. The staff worked together to ensure the language was applicable and easy to follow.
|
|

Leadership Collaboratives
|

Child Care Aware of NH offers Leadership Collaborative meetings for Directors, Administrators, and other Early Childhood Leaders from September to June each year.
These meetings are designed by each group in the region to reflect area needs and interests.
Please be on the lookout in mid-August for the 2019-2020 list of Leadership Collaborative.

- Create a list of fun activities families can do together in your area or ask families for their favorite things to do and share the list within your program.
- Happiness Happens Month
- Share some happiness with the children and families you work with.

- Try hosting a Brownie's at Brunch event in your program.
- Have families share their favorite brownie recipe.
- Have the kids make brownies during the day.

Every month, we will strive to bring you information to increase your understanding of the NH Child Care Licensing Rules, and to share other resources to assist you in your work with and on behalf of children and their families.
