Lutherans Restoring Creation Connections Call

Wednesday, June 23 at 5pm (Pacific)

We will hear from Johanna Bernu, a scientist (who happens to be in 8th grade) and Descendant of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in Minnesota. She will share her experiences of conducting research on the disinfectant properties of water lilies using Ojibwe knowledge alongside euro-centric scientific processes. We will also reflect on the intersection of faith and science as expressed by fellow Lutheran from the The Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy in Montana, Loni Taylor. This topic could be discussed non-stop for weeks, but we will hear from a couple perspectives to start the gears turning and share resources to explore more and keep the conversation going in other circles. We are looking to add resources to this collection and urge you to explore them and thoughtfully integrate the act of repudiating the doctrine of discovery in your Creation Care efforts. 

United States of Grace w/ author Pr. Lenny Duncan

The author of Dear Church, the ELCA Pastor of Jubilee Collective in Vancouver, Washington, and active in various other religious and social good works, Lenny Duncan has his own story to tell in his newest book, United States of Grace: A Memoir of Homelessness, Addiction, Incarceration, and Hope (Broadleaf Books). Rev. Duncan will appear in conversation with Rev. Tim Phillips, Lead Pastor at Seattle First Baptist Church.

The NWWA Synod Staff is planning to host a Zoom collaboration session to share learnings (even missteps) and challenges about moving from digital to in-person worship. To prepare and maximize this time, we are asking that you share with us some of your recent learnings and some current/future challenges via the Google Form that you will receive when you register. From your responses, we will tailor our breakout rooms to best meet the needs. Possible topics might be: What tech requirements are needed for live streaming? How to personalize online worship? Ideas for making in-person worship safer.

Check out this unique class taught by Pastor Marshall, First of West Seattle, four times a year since 2003. The class is on four Mondays in July (5, 12, 19, and 26) on Zoom from 7pm to 9pm. The cost is $20 --- which covers sending you in the mail your own copy of an approved English translation of the Koran.
