Thank You!
"Thank you! The events of the last 6 months have been unprecedented and unrelenting. They have tested us in ways no-one thought possible at the start of the year, and we are grateful for all you have continued to do in serving God throughout."

The opening line to the letter sent by Bishop Nick and Diocesan Secretary Jonathan could not have been more accurate, reflecting how the finance team feel about the extraordinary effort that many of you have put into looking after parish finances.

The letter goes on to explain the current financial position of the Diocese and the steps that Church House is taking to cut costs. It also calls parishes, who are able, to support their neighbours and pay more.

"In difficult times, it is easy to turn inwards and to only give what we can spare. But the Gospel calls us to do something different: to love our neighbours.... Could you do more... and support other parishes as well as your own?"

Parish Share Requests
Parish Share requests will be sent out by the week ending 30th October 2020. The requests will arrive by email and will be sent to all incumbents and church treasurers. Please ensure we have an up to date email address for you.

The email will also be an invaluable opportunity for us to collect information so that we can serve you better. Please do take the time to complete the online parish feedback form that will be included as a link in your email.

We are running hour-long webinars to explain your Parish Share calculation and how the Diocese spend Parish Share on Wednesday 11th November at 12noon and 6pm and again on Wednesday 25th November at 12noon and 6pm.
There Has Never Been A Better Time to Join the Parish Giving Scheme!
The Parish Giving Scheme continues to offer the certainty of regular income for churches during these very uncertain times as well as a myriad of other benefits. Find out how Revd Nicolas Mercer of Bolton Priory Church feels the Parish Giving Scheme has helped them to manage over the last few months.
Read more feedback from our parishes on their PGS stories here

Discover how the Parish Giving Scheme can benefit your parish by joining one of our PGS zoom meetings  on 9th and 18th November at 12noon and 6pm.
Call for Accounting Support
Are you someone or do you know someone who would provide accounting support to parishes either for free, expenses or full paid basis? Services could range from regular bookkeeping to annual accounts preparation and independent examination services.
Please do get in touch with philip.deane@leeds.anglican.org if you can help or if you would like to make a recommendation.
Treasurer Briefings
Heard about online giving, contactless giving, donate buttons and the PGS, but not quite sure how to set them up for your church?
Come along to a special treasurers’ webinar on Tuesday 27th October at 12noon and again at 6pm to find out how to get to grips with such essentials for your church. This is not a webinar to discuss the intricacies of Parish Share calculations but it is an opportunity to find out what else you can do to help grow your church income.
For details on how to join this special treasurers’ briefing please email janet.edmond@leeds.anglican.org

LDBF Emergence Mission Grants
The next round of funding for the Diocesan Covid Emergence Mission Grants closes on 31st October. This will be your last opportunity to apply as the grant fund closes after this date.
Heritage Funding Directory
The Heritage Funding Directory is a free guide to financial support for anyone undertaking UK related heritage projects. The Heritage Alliance and The Architectural Heritage Fund have combined their funding directories to provide around 400 updated listings, detailing sources of grants from trusts and foundations, as well as organisations offering loan finance, awards, scholarships and other ‘in kind’ resources.
The Directory’s entries cover historic buildings, landscapes, parks and gardens, churchyards and cemeteries, industrial heritage, archives, historic churches, museums, archaeology, the environmental, heritage skills, conservation and more.

Wills and Legacies
Will Aid is a special partnership between the legal profession and nine of the UK’s best-loved charities. Every November, participating solicitors waive their fee for writing a basic Will. Why not promote this service to your congregation and tell them what a difference a legacy gift would make to your church.
Appointments go fast so booking is advised now. Go to Will Aid to read more.

Death and Money Panel Discussion, 23rd October 16:30-18:00
An experienced panel will share wisdom on this sensitive topic of why they believe it is the right thing to do to talk about legacies in a pandemic. How do we help people get their affairs in order before death? There is a heightened awareness of our mortality at the moment so how can churches build on the tradition of the past and nurture positive and healthy conversations about money and death with their congregations and their communities? Register for the event and join the discussion.
Reserves Policy
The principles of accountability and transparency make it important that the members of a PCC are aware of the ‘free reserves’ for which they are responsible. It is good stewardship to ensure these reserves are used to gain maximum benefit for the parish as a whole in its pursuit of the whole mission of their church. The idea of simply keeping some money for a ‘rainy day’ is no longer adequate as a policy. Read a simple guide to the management of reserves here.
